DC-50 Update-HELP!!!!

I'm sure this has been addressed before on here but my search did not provide the solution to my problem.

I am currently trying to update my DC-50 collar so that my Alpha can track it. I am attempting to do this update using a mac computer and using the garmin map updater program.

My computer keeps telling me it cannot detect any device and says to power on my collar and plug the cable into the computer. I am using the charging cradle and plugging the cradle into the usb port on my computer. Each time I attach the cradle to the collar it turns the collar light to red, and the computer keeps telling me to turn the collar on. The problem is that if I try to turn the collar on while the cradle is attached, it will not turn on. If I turn it on and then attach the cradle it turns the charging light red. I cannot seem to power on the collar at the same time that the cradle is plugged in to the USB port.

Am I using the wrong cable, or is my computer just not able to recognize my collar because my collar won't stay on when I plug it into the USB port?? Any help would be much appreciated. THANK YOU ALL!!!

You have to update your DC 50 on a PC. In order to link the DC 50 to your alpha , You will have to first add the collar to a 430 to get the tracking number and then add it manually to the Alpha.

Thanks Cory, I already have connected the dc-50 to my 430 unit and obtained the track code and entered the track code into my alpha but its not linking so I am now trying to give my DC-50 the latest upgrade so that it can communicate with the alpha.

You are saying I must use a PC and not a mac to preform the upgrade. I have not had to do that in the past to upgrade my hand helds or install birdseye, but you may be right.

Thanks for your suggestion.

.

You should not use a mac to upgrade collars. On garmins web site it says this in bold letters. Many collars have been ruined using a mac.

Thanks Bruce. I find it interesting that you say that it states that in bold letters, but if you go to garmin web updater it gives you the option of downloading the PC version or the mac version. I downloaded the mac version but it still didn't work so I guess I will find a pc and try it there.

Rocket man some day I am sure they will get the bugs worked out with the MAC and maybe they have now. Just a couple weeks ago on a Saturday a friend from the board updated his "T" series collars and they didn't work afterwards. Rocket you are right because there is a download for MAC.

Here is a post on here from March of last year in the GARMIN TIP OF THE DAY POST.
TT15 Collar Problem

Bruce,

I just recently purchased an Alpha 100 with a tt15 collar. I immediately used the garmin/webupdater to update the alpha and collar. When I tried to sync the collar to the alpha for the first time it would not. I followed the directions in the manual -Dog List - Add Dog - Are you near a collar -Yes but the collar doesn't ever sync with it. The Collar just blinks red and after the original update, it will not recognize the device on the webupdater. I see on the garmin FAQ that using a MAC Computer can cause problems with updates. Any advice or should I just call garmin. And I did try updating with a PC but the webupdater wouldn't recognize the collar when I did that. Thanks!

If you tried to update your collar with a MAC it may be ruined. Garmin website tells you how to do a master reset. Perform that and then update with a windows computer.
If it don't work then the only thing is to call Garmin and see if they will warranty it.

Just to make sure of one thing. Your putting the collar in the pairing mode when your trying to attach it. That means holding the start button for several seconds. Yours may not go in a pairing mode now.

If you purchased it from me call 904-692-1568 this morning and I will see what I can do.

Thank you, Bruce! I called Garmin and they had me try the same things that you suggested, but no luck. They honored the warranty so I'm sending it in. It was the MAC update on the TT15 that messed it up. A learning experience for me, but I wish Garmin had some info stating not to update a TT15 with a MAC. Thanks again for your advice!

Burg on Gamins website it does say to not use a MAC Computer.

Before using the T series collars or DC 50, ensure the latest firmware is installed*. Download and install Garmin WebUpdater to update the collars and handheld Dog Tracking devices. Follow the onscreen instructions for updating them.

*Do not attempt to update the T series collars or DC 50 with a MAC computer
