Dog supplement

Is there a common type of supplement or vitamin out there that would give an older dog a boost? Something that would make them healthier AND give them a boost in energy? Thanks for any help

Good dog food. Also take them in and get them checked out for tick diseases. You might try some lixotonic.

Man, i think i have tried them all. Three different versions of K9 Power, Forte, the Purina Bars, etc. Nothing pisses me off like spending $40 on one of these products and my dog wont touch it. Or they eat it for a month and you cannot tell a bit of difference, assuming you are capable of that level pf objectivity. If they work, i could never tell. The one and only additive i ever came to believe in is the basic Cod Liver oil gell pill. Cures bowe legged pups in a week and puts a major shine on the coat. Beyond that, your imagination is your dogs best friend.

My old dog likes hotdogs show all kinds of energy running to the fridge from the recliner lol.
When I was hunting him in the hunts when he was older I gave him nutri-cal before each round.

I give each of my 3 dogs one Omega 3 gel cap a day. I don't know if it helps or not. I feel better giving it to them. I take it too and can't tell any difference.

Red Cell is cod liver oil for dogs. You don't have to give it to them every day. Just give them some when you hunt them hard or right before a big hunt. But be careful it will jack them up and make them babble.

I agree with getting these older dogs checked by a good vet and some bloodwork that includes a Free T4 by ED test. Idexx Labs has some good packages that includes a Geriatric Screen and 4DX test for Tick dz, and Heartworm.

Eukanuba Performance 30/20 with or without added liver and hamburger can give them a boost of energy.

If you are already feeding a good food then try this stuff. It's like a shot in the arm for these dogs.

Personally I think most of your higher end dog foods do a good job of meeting their nutritional needs. I have tried various supplements with several different goals in mind. I have not seen an appreciable increase in energy (thank God) with any of them.

I have always fed my females something like a premium 30/20 feed when I plan to breed them and keep them on it through their pregnancy. I don't see a big difference in younger females but I have noticed an appreciable difference in my older females (8+) that are raising pups when I have given them Dog Forte with their meals. I have given them 2 scoops of Dog Forte (formerly sold by Black Gold but it is made by a company known as Dawes Laboratories). Typically my females start eating after delivery of pups sooner and don't get pulled down as much immediately following pup delivery. It has worked for me.

Goat powder milk formula, cheap compared to some other supplements.

Purina Pro Plan 30/20, I can't afford to feed it straight, I mix it with Dog Chow.

...you might look into the value of adding fish oil to their dog food...
