Under pressure!

I've had several hounds over the years, that would not run a deer by there selfs! I've seen them pass there where deer was in a area an never draw a bark!
I was sure of my hound that it wouldn't run a deer! Was a wrong lol
You take them with another dog that wasn't broke an if thay opened up on a deer, there was a good chance mine would help them out!
Men let's be honest! How many have had hound that would handle the pressure of a hound that's not trash broke? I'm talking about her/him would hunt like he was by his self!? Not letting the other hound influence it?

heck i have 1 here that may even start the trash in a cast run it just a short distance maybe 100 yards and fall off and let the rest of the cast running that junk out of hearing. she just goes on her own way and finds a coon to tree.

it's kind of like she opens hear mouth before she knows what laid the track because she knows better then to run junk but gets excited and can't help herself.

My older dog won't run a deer by himself and have seen him not run deer with other dogs. BUT for some reason a young dog that I'm hunting sucked him in on 2 deer chases. They caught both deer after a half mile run.

There's a lot of difference in a straight strike dog and a broke dog.

I had one years ago that would NEVER start a deer by herself or with other dogs. BUT, let another dog bark on a deer track one bark and she would show even the best deer runner how to run it.

That said, I've had others that would not run a deer if your life and theirs depended on it.

My thoughts are that no dog is broke from deer until proven broke.

Southern Sky little mate to xJr would tree coon all night alone, put her in a cast and she would strike a deer and soon as the rest fell in she would pull off and tree a coon, smartest dog I ever owned.

Mouse likes to come sit with you and listen to the race she is just naturally straight once they clear out she will go tree a coon, my other dog on the other hand wont strike one but if you do he will show you how to run it for about 5 min he was heck to break when he was young , he actually ran one down and caught and killed it right in front of us one night

As long as the dog is alive , I would never say never !

But , I have had 2 that never did.

One , I raised and he never ran a deer in his life. owned him till he died.

The other , I bought him at 5 years old and he never ran one in the 7 years I hunted him.
Don't know if he was born that way or broke before I got him.

I had a blue dog out of Southren Blue Pride that would not run any trash. I hunted with a man 4 nights a week that had a coon treeing mechine, but take deer and cyotoes race away from the best running walkers. My blue dog had big ears and would leave a tree to check her. If it was fast game, he would return to the tree. He was the strightest dog I have ever been in the woods with.

You never really know what they will do. I have had several that wouldn’t run one even with company. I have a young dog that I thought I had broke until the other night. I think it was a fox, but the other dog started it. Then mine showed him how to run it. Through the other dog plum out of the race!

Yep. I owned the deer, coyote, fox running female. She was one of the best coon treers I ever saw....... until she decided to run fast game. His blue tick NEVER opened on anything but a coon and he was never broke. He was born that way.

I've learned a hard lesson, Never Say Never. Even the best have a breakdown when you least expect it. Been there, done that.

My dog truly doesnt care what the other dogs are doing. Doesn't matter if you cut him with 1 or 5 other dogs, he is going to do his thing and thats go tree a coon. He will let another dog back him but not back another. Some might say he is independent to a fault, I say if he messes up I know its on him and no one else. And I have cut him on deer that were bedded down and I didnt see and he just runs right past them.

Under pressure

Lots of folks dogs can not pass the pressure test. Pressure is the true test for any dog-some pass many fail! I have owned many dogs that could not take the pressure and several that could. I only keep the ones that handle any pressure they encounter. Might as well feed a good one. Dave
