Coon huning on TV?

With all the shows on TV today why don't we have a coon hunting show? We have deer hunting and other hunting why not coon hunting. I know it is someone who can make it happen.

Their is a few and honestly they all suck. Try watching them and you'll understand what I'm talking about. Coonhunting will never bring the ratings like deer and turkey hunting does

To have a show on TV you need sponsors. Not easy to do.

I'm sure it isn't easy to get good equipment that can film at night, but the ones I have seen were terrible. I can't remember the name of the one, but it was sponsored by F&T, and the guy was just a clown. Nearly every tree he said, "Well, we'll have to circle this one". The trees were about 10" in diameter, and he would make up those excuses because his dogs were slick all of the time. The camera wouldn't even pan up the tree. The few episodes were you would see a tree, the base would be 10-12", and then they would show the coon "way up there" and the branches were the same diameter.

Like I said the ones I've seen were of poor quality and didn't do many favors for the sport. The best bet would be to get a guy like Benny Spies to come out with good equipment so a person with little knowledge of the sport could still be entertained.

I aired one on CARNIVORE this last season. I don't hunt in the dark, rather shoot all my video in the daylight. It requires a lot more nose on your dogs to hunt mornings but that's fine with me as I hunt them on lion as well. I also aired a lion hunt with these same dogs. As far as I know, I am the only host of a TV show that raises, hunts and airs TV shows using hounds. I also shot a TV show at Autumn Oaks a few years ago when we worked with UKC to do so.
I am in the process of videoing shows for next season and already have several lion hunts in the can. I am planning to shoot a bobcat hunt with hounds with Shorty Gorham, PBR Bullfighter who also maintains a pack of hounds in South Texas.
Unfortunately, coon hunting, especially competition hunting does not make TV that the average consumer wants to see. One, they don't know what's going on and two, they want a payoff...see something killed.
Adios,
Gary

By the way, CARNIVORE airs July thru December (3rd and 4th quarters). You can view most of the old episodes on CARBONTV, 24-7. I will be putting up last seasons shows at the end of January.
Thanks and Adios,
Gary

Thanks for the kind words. I feel that it is extremely important for us to show hunting and especially hunting with hounds in a very positive manner. I pray that I always portray hunting in a such a fashion that you will be proud and that the viewer will want to experience the sport that we love.
Adios,
Gary
