Feeding times

Just curious as to how you all feed your dogs. Do you feed them a portion in the morning before work and another in the afternoon? Or do you feed them once a day in the afternoon?

Feeding

Lovis I feed mine at 5 am right before I leave for work. Depending on when its getting dark I feed them after I get back from hunting. Feeding the better dog foods they do well on 4 to 5 cups a day total.

I feed mine in morning before work and again after work. If I hunt that night, I feed them again a small amount when I get home. They seems to stay in better condition when I feed them multiple times a day then when I fed them once per day.
I've been told that they absorb the most from the food when fed within one hour of a work out (hunting). When it gets dark at 6:00 and I get home at 5, I just hold all the food till after the hunt.

I feed mine twice a day, once about 6:30 AM and again about 4:30 PM. This also gives me a chance to check on them and make sure all is well before leaving for the day.

Feeding

I feed in the morning before work and at dark unless I am going hunting, then I feed as soon as get done hunting. Twice a day allows me to spend more time making sure all is good (as deadeye said) and just generally messing with my dogs. Also I like to think that like the human body their body's will be more apt to absorb nutrients better right after hunting(work out).

I feed mine once a day in the evening. Dogs that are going hunt ting get fed when I get done hunting. I don't want to hunt them with food in their gut.

I feed mine once a day in the evening if not going hunting. Dogs that are going hunt ting get fed when I get home from hunting. Have there food in their bowls and they go straight to their pen with no leads and even works with pups. Never liked a hound to eat prior to hunting them.

Dogs are unique animals. They still maintain some of the digestive traits of their ancestral wolves. They don't fell hunger in the same as humans. Think about if a wolf got so hungry how likely will that negatively affect his hunting ability?

On the same token wolves will eat every opportunity they have because they don't know how long it will be to its next meal. Dogs will rarely turn their noses up to food ... no matter how well feed ... they all will still eat from a gut pile.

I feed once a day in the evening unless hunting then the dog gets feed when we get home.

Ok. I was just curious. I always feed mine in the afternoon when I get home from work. And the one or one's I plan on hunting that night. I feed when I get home after hunting. I have cups measured out from 2 cups up to 4 cups. And right now this time of the year I feed 3.5 cups to 4 cups depending on the dog.

So I'm about to switch things up a bit and feed in the mornings before I go to work and then in the afternoon to see how it works. Thanks for the input.

I only feed once a day, used to always feed in the mornings before I go to work but since I haven't been working it usually ends up being noon or into the afternoon

I'm fortunate because I can go home from work at lunch time, so I feed mine at noon. That way when I hunt each nite, the food is not still on their stomach.

I feed usually 11/12 pm. or when I get home from hunting. Dogs hunt better and safer on an empty stomach. Studies have shown that dogs have better endurance when they fed 24 hours before being hunted.

Yes, wolves eat anytime they get the chance but they usually only hunt when hungry.

I used to feed the dogs i wasn't going to hunt in the evening and dogs I hunted after I got them home from hunting. Now I feed in the morning, dogs don't kennel bark as much and I don't have to figure out which dogs I am going to hunt before I feed, can just go get whichever ones I want.

I never feed mine at the same time. I feed them only at night and never right after I get home. I never want my dogs thinking its ok to bark when I pull in the drive way or when anyone else does. They are fed mostly right after they are hunted. They stay in the box I change the water fill the food pans and clean the kennels as they are sitting in the box. I un collar point them to the kennel and they kennel up themselves because they know its feeding time. I walk up shut the doors lites out.
