That is negotiated with a negotiating committee and the employer and both agree before signing a contract. I hear all this talk about less government and they need to stay out of the way but the same people that say that want government to intervene in collective bargaining, and other issues the government has no business being involved in, but folks want to force their religions beliefs on others so they just go ahead and do it. It's a two way street folks if we are gonna be a free country then we need to be free if we aren't then we aren't.
Rob, I was simply showing how your speaking up on behalf of unions as being the better way to engage in the employer/employee relationship is the exact same mindset as someone declaring that abortion is wrong way to handle the parent/child relationship. It is the same philosophy, (one idea is superior to the other), just separate subjects.
As far as ideas on the size and scope of government, government does need to be involved in certain things and also to stay out of certain things. The way to decide those things in America is to read, understand, and follow the Constitution. And yes, laws do force certain beliefs on society as all laws indicate that certain things are right or wrong, acceptable or unacceptable.
Liberty isn't the freedom to do wrong, but the freedom to do right. Anything past that is anarchy.
