What do you call them things , usually out west, that are at the beginning of someones driveway? The thing with two poles with one connecting them at the top. Usually have the ranches symbol on it ?

Are you looking for a proper name other than the obvious? If it's just a drive through archway I call it an entrance. I'm sure that's not what you're looking for but I'm not sure there's a proper name for it other than that?
