One minute rule #4-D

When was this rule change instituted or put in? Does anyone remember why it was changed to read "dogs have one minute to babble before they must be struck"? What was the reasoning behind this rule change? Has it had the desired effect? Or is this one of those well intended rule changes that has backfired?

Musta been about 25 years ago they changed it. No idea why they did can't imagine what their intentions were but it don't take a genius to see the results. Hardly ever seen a dog bark off the chain before they changed it now look what we got.

I think it was in the early 80's I personly have never liked it from a pleasure hunters view point I like the silence when you turn loose and the anticipation of when and where they strike and by the way they move the track if it is hot or cold that's coon hunting to me.

I started about 85 and it was changed a few years after that. I don't know what their logic was if not just to let the dogs off the hook that barked a couple times off the leash, which in my opinion is simply lack of training. But if that was their intention then the grace period should have reflected that. 5-10 seconds ! I hate it and don't care what the rule is anything I turn loose better be struck when it barks or its gonna get juiced. Its just about the easiest thing there is to fix.

In the mid 90's it was 3 min on the first dump and the third bark after that. Still had babblers they just struck them and no one said anything. Its the same thing now there are just more of them, but it wasnt UKC that brought that problem out.

Back then everything was cool in the first three minutes, after that first dump it was argument central if you tried to scratch a dog for babbling. So I think they changed the "honor" rules so that it would make it more honorable if you wanted to hunt a babbler and stay in the hunt. Now we can still argue over babbling without getting scratched. Lmbo.

I agree with your statement. Did you ever hunt with the set em Bo Jack dog of Bill Smith's that Justin Lancaster handled in the mid 90's?
