Im not gonna get into a discussion about color, but this is what the UKC standards say:

COLOR

Preferred color is a dark blue, thickly mottled body, spotted by various shaped black spots on back, ears and sides. Preference is to more blue than black on body. Head and ears predominantly black. With or without tan markings (over eyes, on cheeks, chest and below tail), and red ticking on feet and lower legs. Red may be eliminated as to the desire of the breeder, as well as the amount of black on the body and the tan head coloring.

A fully blue mottled body is preferred over light ticking on the body. There should be more blue ticking than white in the body coat.

There are some smokey river hounds that are light or black and white in color. I have also seen it in line bred utchman bred hounds as well. I have been told that it shows up occasionally in other lines but I have not seen it personally. I think it's a throw back from the early days of the breed when blueticks, walkers, and English were one breed.

pic

I personally love the lighter colored blues. The black and white color is one of my favorites. Almost without exception I have found them to be some of the nicest dogs you will ever hunt with. But as has already been said color is about the lowest thing on the totem pole when it comes to my preference for a dog. I know some will disagree but I don't care if they are pink with 3 legs screwed on backwards if they can tree a pile of coons.

a litter of 5

I could show many different pic's of these two white blueticks but this is my fav, I have posted it before and I will probably post it again many more times. There is no blue ticking on either dog, they come from a long line of dark dogs and the female has produced 3 near black dogs in her first litter which wasn't long ago. There were some ligher pups but they all ticked up nicely with a dark under coat.

I can't say enough about the female and the male is no slouch by any means etiher both are used on bear the female is 45 lbs of solid muscle and moves thru the woods as fast as anything I have seen. The male is solid muscle toping out at 85 lbs and is a solid tree dog, both have big noses and act as a blue dog should or any other dog of value should, no boo hoo'ing here, they move a track from cold to hot and put game on a limb. The pic was taken at 3 months of age after a long walk thru the timber.

Nitro

I sold him back to the owner of the sire hunting out alone and treeing his own coon at 8 months old due to the sires death.

This was the Iowa pup futurity. I handled him for the owners at 10 months old and got 2nd place. He earned first in the final 4, but I didn't pull the trigger soon enough.

This b & w pup is a female we kept from a litter born May 2012. She has proven to be as natural as they come. She treed her first coon at 5 months old and has never looked back. A lot of "old timers" told us this one was the one to keep. It sure has proven true. I don't know why the color of a pup should make a difference in whether a pup is special, but we had two white ones in the litter. I was told by one very wise man that it means the genes lined up right.
