Your dog

Just wondering on how many of you guys or gals truly love this sport and your hound? I was put in a difficult situation last night that made me set back and think long and hard for the love of this sport and my hounds. I just purchased a young dog not long ago that to a working man like myself I fill that a paid a rather large amount of money for. But to some it would be pocket change. I've come rather fond of this dog in a short amount of time. She is one of the better young dogs I've ever had the pleasure to hunt. Is she perfect no way she isn't but show me one that is. I try not to get to attached to my hounds because we all know when we unsnap them we never know if where going to see them again. So that being said I went hunting Monday night and I work some crazy hrs for trying to be a coon hunter so those who know me know that when I do get the chance to hunt I make it a all nighter. So anyway back to Monday night when I went to get my dog to go hunting I new there was something wrong with her. She just wasn't acting like her normal self. But I went ahead and took her anyway. She looked very good on the first couple of coon she treed but was rapidly running out of energy. She treed several more that night but by the end of the night she just flat refused to load up or come out of the box and even go hunting. I was getting upset with her but something told me that she's not her normal self and was in pain because trust me that's not how she operates. So I came home before the sun was coming up. Took her to my vet on Tuesday morning and she took blood and tested her for a couple different things. She would tell me it was one thing and than no it was something else. She had her until last night and my dog wouldn't eat and hadn't ate since Monday. So I took her to Kansas city to have a ultra sound done on her and they saw something and said she needed surgery ASAP. With that being said I've already spent well over my budget on her and I was left with to me a very difficult decision to make. The vet told me the surgery was going to cost me $4000 to $7000 dollars. I'm sorry but I don't have that kind of money laying around. But I really like this dog and would give up anything I could or do anything I could to keep her around. So idk if I did the right thing but now I can say I've got a very EXPENSIVE bluetick coon hound. She made through surgery and is doing good as of now. I continue to pray she makes a full recovery. If in when she does look out fellow bluetickers I'll be on a mission. Thanks for reading and hope to see you soon......Jerrold Parker

vets and coondogs

Been their done that. But I wasn't as lucky as you mine didn't make it. I would do it again in a heart beat for one that suited me and I LIKED. Also if I could borrow the money some where I wasn't living on Social Security back then. You will know in your heart you did the right thing with no regrets.

What was wrong with Josie? Guess I would of hauled her to Dr Willard in Girard. As good as they get and reasonable prices. Josie can win the money it cost you pretty quick. She's a super nice gyp & just a youngster.

Sending hope & prayers your way that she makes a complete recovery. If she was that special to you to spend that kind of money, I'm sure she is a very good one. Hope to see you soon in a picture with her winning a big time hunt. Take care, Ron.

Our Hounds

Bless you sir for taking care of your hound. I have been there and done that, Not that much at one time, but these hounds are probably the reason that I'm not a rich man today(Money wise), but I'm a lot richer in other ways, for the enjoyment I have gotten with these ole Bluetick hounds
and all the good friends that I have today that I made through them. Wishing a quick recovery for your hound and that you and her enjoy many more years of hunting togeather.

I got to bring my hound my home today. She's living in the house for awhile. It's going to be a long tuff road ahead for her. But I'm still praying she makes a full recovery. Thanks for all the calls and text. We will see you all some where some I hope. God bless & happy hunting.......Jerrold Parker
