Highest sale price?

Just curious what the highest price payed for a coondog is in history? Verified actual green dollars! Not trades of IOU I mean money on the truck hood or blank check to be filled out later verifiable sales.

A lot goes into making a dog like that. Time money equiptment. And then ya you might get lucky to get back what you got in the dog but try to replace it.

I can't imagine any dog actually being worth $50k. Pup $400--Light $300---Tracker $800- Collars and leads $25. Shots, wormer and vet bills $500--Thats roughly $2k. You can buy a heck of a lot of gas for $48k. I, myself, couldn't really count training unless you sent it somewhere to have it trained because you are probably going to be hunting anyway. That's a lot of jack for a dog that may get killed by a $1000 car on the highway.

2500 pups with an avg litter of 8 x $400 a shot is a lot of scratch. About 125 k.

I guess same as anything else a dog is worth what somebody is willing to pay for it.

I believe stylish Anna's price tag was 20 k for a female back in the 90's I'd guess. Highest priced female at the time I'd guess. I imagine a couple of the world ch females sold for that much or more since then.

Back in 93 we paid a grand for a 6 week old puppy from wild joey and hardwood Dan. My partner had to talk me into that one lol but she was worth every Penny

A dog is like anything else... It is worth what somebody is willing to pay... To some 50K is like a 1000 to most of us.

Carleton Salley, McGee, ark, purchased gr nite ch warren's blue streak. I hunted with streak several nights and he was nice. hard tree dog! Carleton never mentioned what he paid and I never asked. it was high I'm sure. he purchased him around 1979 and I hunted with him, 1980. streak was a direct son of gr nite ch northern blue jet. jet was owned by lavan Lawson, and he, lavan, hunted with us a few times as well. when lavan graduated from police school, I went also. again, summer 1980. ol jet was sold by lavan and later, his new owner was barred from ukc Doc Whitaker. so jet II went from ed mead to another ark fellow. T.E. Neely. jet III gone early, and the Jet IV, ed kept. he was THE real deal! awesome blue dog! my opinion.

spring, 1980

Bluetick male gr nite ch southern blue pride, sold for a record then of around , I want to guess, been a while, $10,00.00. it could of been higher?! that was record at the time. Pride was northern blue bred on top,Hammer V, Vaughn on the bottom. the coonhound world was a buzz.....LOL! we only had telephones to relay any messages. and early tape recorders. throw tape in mail and send off. LOL! I still have my original tape about the sale. lil cassette. as Dave Dean replied " and no housecats thrown in." naturally, good cooners go higher than that now. times have sure changed....if any of this is wrong? I apologize, been a while.

also interesting, these were Northern Blue blooded Blueticks. except for a lil Vaughn on the bottom of one. early Northern Blue set a lot of all breed records that some might not even be aware of. it is for sure, no other was doing it in the hunts at the time......

Why be ashamed of what you pay for the dog? I understand it's probably not anyone's business, but there's no need to hide it, if you can afford it then go for it. If you think people will make fun of you, you're ashamed of spending that much money, or any other reason, maybe you should reconsider making the deal.

i would want to answer by saying....

some people love a good brag on a price they may have sold a hound at. and some keep personal. why the brag? because same ol thing since dawn of time "look what I got. look what I did, etc." ads in magazines are somewhat a brag, aren't they? I personally, didn't feel a price for a hound, was anyone's business , but I am glad I was contacted as this particular time in history, as it was really special for Blueticks. when jet was sold by Lavan Lawson, it was kept private. it all depends on the individual. doesn't bother me to know one way or the other and I'm sure majority of the coonhound public feels the same. just remember, get insurance. never know what might happen when and if you say "no." and same holds true for new owner/buyer. one thing for sure, don't even try to buy a "hammer" male. dave has never sold one ever! somethings money doesn't buy...but then again, how about just good common sense and self-respect. can't buy them either.

when i hunted with Lavan,

he had no hounds then. in his home, the coon wasn't there either. I don't believe he ever returned to hunting. that's the problem with money, easy come, easy go. but a great hound will go on forever and long after the money is gone.
