Question on training

When you have the dog tree a drag or a caged coon, how long do you give it before pulling them off the tree? Do you pull them off wanting more or do you keep them there for awhile so the know they need to stay there? Thanks

Training

I ant no expert myself but it all depends on how old they are if they are 5 months or so I like to get them real excited on treeing and try to have some movement up in the tree. If they do good on that I go at least 15-20 minutes if interested in it. If not maybe 5 minutes but if their tired then pull it down and award them. Once they get older they will tree longer. Just don't get disappointed in them ever hound is different. Hope I was any help.

I don't work dogs on drags,,cage,, or anything else,,I just work mine in the natural wild, but I know some that do,,they only work theirs no more than 10 to 15 minutes total,,and it seems to work good for them.
And I read in the John Wick book, that you don't want to work them any longer than 15 minutes,,you always want to leave them wanting more,,good luck.

I haven't started any on drags, but i'd say no more than if the pup treed off a feeder bucket or with an older dog, about 5 or 10 minutes and pull him off... You want to pull him wanting more, you don't want to keep him on tree until he gets bored with it.... Remember a pup's attention span is not very long.
