Who Would You Like To See Featured In Coonhound Bloodlines ?

Who would you like to see featured in your upcoming breed issue of Coonhound Bloodlines? Any particular dog, bloodline, kennel, breeder or handler you would enjoy reading about? Coonhound Bloodlines magazine is interested in your suggestions. Now keep in mind some of the ones that will be suggested may have been featured in the last couple years. Try to make recommendations you don’t remember seeing featured recently.

Historical suggestions for both dogs and breeders are great. Current dogs, breeders and handlers deserve to be acknowledged. Let’s hear your suggestions. Can’t think of a better group to ask than those of you most active in the breed!

Feel free to post them here or submit your recommendations to editor Vicki Rand.

I would personally like to see them featured in the breed issue to tell the history of their vision. Thanks

Tom McClary & his brother the late James McClary.

Turkey Creek & Honey Run Bluetick kennels. Tom is still active, & while James was alive he was very passionate about his blue hounds as well. Those guys have been around for for decades & always have generation after generation of quality hounds. As was told to me by both men, solid females are the backbone of their success. You won't hear any drum beating, their hounds have spoken very well for themselves over the years.

I have been fortunate enough to enjoy some of the fruits of their labor!

Who I would like to see featured!

Guy Orminston's past history with blueticks, most successful crosses, and a summation of all his experience and knowledge about producing good blueticks. I've read Mr. Orminston's articles for years and although I'm not a breeder, I find his articles very interesting. He does a lot of research to produce a good article. He's one of the few who isn't afraid to put it on paper and put it out there on record. I would like to see you do a feature on him.

May /Bluetick issue

Mr.Grayson Paul of Marmack Bluetick Kennels -Marianna,Pa. For those who don't know ,Grayson owned the very 1st UKC Bluetick Night Champion back in 1959.Grayson is up in his 70's and still doing good.He can overwhelm a person with his wealth of knowledge in a short time.He still hunts some and has Bluehounds that will do the job right .He has hunted w/a very large percentage of the foundation dogs that run through the pedigrees of our hounds today. I know of no one with the knowledge and experience that he has and the memory of it all. Grayson has helped many to enjoy the coonhunting sport w/ the famous Bluetick hound. There are others who are very deserving of an article, but I'd sure like to see the history that this fine gentleman has made and knows brought to the front for the fellow hunters & bluetick fanciers to enjoy. As well as, to Honor one of the greatest Blue guys I know.JMO. Thanks.......Dave

?????

There's so many great people deserving of this recognition. I'm inclined to agree with Dave and Wayne on Grayson Paul. I heard about Grayson and his fine hounds when I first got into coon hunting back in the late 60's. One other that entered my mind was Del Cameron. Now there's a man who has stood the test of time. So many others that are deserving but these two stand out for me. Have a great day.

Jim Palmer

Went on a hunt with Mr. Palmer and Timothy Ball last night. Mr. Palmer was the original owner of Smoky River Diamond Jim. It was interesting hearing about how Jim started as a young dog and his strong points. Very interesting gentleman. Warren Hausler purchased Diamond Jim off Mr.Palmer.

Thumbs up Grayson

Grayson Paul also .

Had the pleasure of sitting in his kitchen a few times and I got my first real good coonhound from him back in the 1990's .

Not many have actually travelled or experienced the hounds that Grayson Paul has .

Most big named or top producing hounds of our time he has actually seen run or raised pups off most of the best producers from years back,,,

He can also tell you a 5 generation pedigree off the top of his head of most hounds and why it runs like it does ....

A true pioneer of blue dogs today and a great man all around.

Dave

I don't remember the year, but there was a really good article on Ed and his hounds in the blue issue several years ago. Showed how he started his pups with the net and the history of his Jet dogs.

Right off hand, I can't think of anyone that I had rather read an article on than Louis L. (Buddy) Lisk 0f Woodville, Ms.. Buddy was always a coonhunters coonhunter, a tree climber second to none. Bubby always raised his own dogs and had some good ones. Buddy has a Store house of knowledge on bluetick coonhounds as well as other bluetick men in his part of the country, such as David Bramlette, R.C. Cupit, B.H.Patterson, gone now but surely not forgotten Sheriff Burnell McGraw. and I'm sure there are several more

Kenny Jones sure did a lot of hunting, winning and promoting of the bluetick breed.

Dexter Whatley did also, I know there has been alot of boots and pickups worn out between them.

Ritchie McDonald handled and owned the only platinum bluetick female there ever has been to date, and also has owned several winners and stud dogs alike, all of similar breeding I believe.

Im quite sure any of those fellers could talk about hounds of the past and present.

Id sure like to see someone interviewed that "Teams" and cheerleaders dont follow around.

Why Grayson

Todd, I live about 20 miles from Grayson Paul, I would like to mention a few things to you about him. He is now well within his 70's. He started hunting Blueticks when he was I think 13 years old. He has owned and sold more top hounds than he will get credit for than any Bluetick guy around. He travelled all over the USA to SEE DOGS GO and know what they were. He has never been kennel or bloodline blind.. If they had what he wanted, he bought it or bred to it regardless of the owner or bloodline. He has served as BBOA President I think it was 1972 ?? He never has a bad thing to say about anyone and looks for the best in everyone..
