Our Last Hunt

I was very fortunate to get the oppurtunity to hunt this week at Southern National Redbone Days is Cedar Grove, NC. On Thursday I got to hunt Trip, the best young dog I've ever owned, and was fortunate to watch him do a really nice job. He split off Pigeon River Gus on the last drop but the tree was hollow. I withdrew him after that as there was no way mathematically he could win. On Friday I hunted my Polly female even though everyone told me not too, because she was pregnant. She treed the only coon seen that night, and needless to say it was very memorable and involved me crossing some very cold water that was over my head. Just like my partner and best friend Deon Collins, we missed the deadline. Deon hunted Slick Thursday and Friday night. Friday Slick scored 562-1/2 + but missed the deadline by 3 minutes. If not for that he could have finished high scoring Redbone. Due to unforeseen circumstances we didn't get to hunt Saturday night, and decided to come home early to our families. I am sad to say to that when we returned home all 3 dogs had died in the box during the ride home. Polly and Slick were 3 years old and Trip was a few months from turning 2. I've been an avid coon hunter for almost 20 years and I have never witnessed anything like this. I am truly scared for life. As a new born believer in Jesus Christ, I have learned to trust in God and put all my faith in him that everything happens for a reason, but I have absolutely no idea why this had to happen or how it happened. I am thankful that I was able to hunt with each of them one last time, but I am mentally, physically, and emotionally scarred for life. Thanks to all my fellow Red Dog hunters for all the support. To Polly, Trip, and Slick, I am so sorry for whatever I did to cause this. I loved you three dogs as much as I loved any other dog I've had in the last 20 years. We will hunt again one day I promise.

Hard to believe

That is a really tuff one , I'm very sorry to hear this news and can not imagine how you must feel. I'm sure it's hard to believe this could happen. I hope you are able to fine a dog some day that will help you forget this tragic loss and helps you remember why you had so much fun hunting.

Very Sad

3 dogs, 3 different ages and bloodlines, dead in the same side of the box. 1 dog on the opposite side of the box is fine. Sounds like foul play to me. Sometimes this coonhunting world becomes a little too serious.

Sorry

Very sorry to hear this news for you and Deon.I just seen him at a hunt with slick a couple of weeks ago. He was a fine looking hound. Reminds me of last year walking out to my kennel finding Grnite Ch Grch Pr Van's Red Oak Lilly Htx dead in her box after just breeding her a week early. The good ones leave us way to early only God knows why.I will be praying for you and Deon and your families. Yours truly, Stephen

Heartfelt condolences to Brett, and Deon

There are no words to express how to try to say something
that would serve to bring either of you two dear friends any measure of comfort. At times like this, one can only lean on God`s promise's, and your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ to grant you strength, and courage to endure through this deep valley. The good ones never are with us long enough. If there is any thing the All Night Gang can do to help, please let us know.

Butch, and All Night Gang

Thanks

Thanks for all the prayers, kind words and phone calls. I will return them all when I am ready. Right now I cannot even think about it without crying. I can only imagine how bad it would be if I tried talking about it. I feel as if all the laughter, love and happiness thats inside me has been sucked right out. I feel lifeless, It's like a bad dream, I just can't talk about it right now.
Thanks. Love You Guys

life's Journey

I remember very well when this journey started. I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to meet such great gentleman friends and brothers throughout this great sport. I am so saddened to hear the tragic news of these great hounds. I know you will miss them dearly and they will forever be in your hearts. I am here for you and will do all I can to see that you guys follow a good Redbone. I realize that some dogs can't be replaced and understand totally. I pray for courage and strength and Gods will in the upcoming day. Your brother Butterbean

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your fine hounds. I had a very good time Thursday night hunting with Deon and slick. The good ones are hard to replace I know both of you have put in a lot of time looking for the top redbone.
