I've hunted in it once. We usually get about 50 to 60 entries in the Pup Extravaganza. It's held on Thursday night of Walker Days, the same night as the Lee Crawford Invitational. You have to qualify for the Lee Crawford at a sectional or major event, but the pup extravaganza is open to any UKC registered Walker that's two years old or under on the date of the event. It's just like any other hunt, with Registered, Nite Champion and Grand Nite Champion categories. The Top Four scoring cast winners hunt it off in a late round cast to determine the overall winner. All cast winners get $50 and the Final Four earn a larger pot. 70% of the entry fees go back to the cast winners and Final Four. It is a Performance Point event, as well.
It's a good event, in my opinion. We used to have a pup hunt held later in the year, but it only got a handful of entries. This gets much more participation and helped us increase the total number of entries for Thursday night of Walker Days. Also, if you enter the Pup Extravaganza or Lee Crawford Hunt, you get a ticket to the banquet we hold that night before the hunt. It's usually a pig roast with all the fixin's.
