need some help?

I got a 6 mnth old feist he will run tree squirrels by sight, but will not bark.should I knock one out to him or wait till he barks?I've coon hunted all my life but never squirrel hunted with dog,,,if it was a coon dog I'd knock it out to another an tie him back but didn't no if that goes for a squirrel dog particularly feist

I would try the same tricks you used for coon hunting. You are basically looking for the same results a dog that will tree and bark when he trees game. Just hunting in the day instead of night now.

If he is just 6 months old that is young you do not see many Feist treeing squirrels when they are that young, just keep taking him out where they are squirrels and he will start barking treed but i would not shoot nothing out to him he want bark on,two of the worse things you can do to a pup is rush them into something they are not ready to do and keep them in the kennel and not put them in the woods.
