good luck. what i look for is traits with ability to tree coons, thats the foundation stock thats in a living dog. its out there in different places, but its not in most flavour of the month dogs, advertised.

theres more than we think though, its just not promoted hard, and can be hard to get your hands on, unless you find and breed to these hounds, and keep these ''traits and abilities'' in your pups, which can be harder than it sounds, because as the old saying goes, you don't know what you got till its gone.

FINLEY RIVER, LONE PINE, CLOVER, HAS THEM OLD TRAITS, TRACK AND TREE POWER WITH A SPEED AND ACCURACY.

TRACKING TRAITS AND TREE ABILITY OF OLD BLOOD = the real thing.
NOTHING BEATS OLD FINLEY RIVER TRACKING TRAITS AND ACCURACY.
look for traits not titles, papers don't tree coons.

The reason im looking for older stuff is because the hunting ability has been slowly bred out of dogs. I dont mean get through the country hunting. Im not doing it to sell and make money on pups. Looking for something different. I know what you mean though. Its not a def thing when u breed to semen just curious who has what out there.

Two most underrated lines of OLD Stuff around!

Durbins Rambler Blood and Brookshier hounds, all country coon dogs mostly that no one has herd of, BUT in my book they don't get much better.
Old Finley river bred hounds with a shot or two of lipper, Super fast track dogs with huge, huge, screaming bawl mouths, that drift and slice through the country like nothing you have seen, fast enough to catch a deer and have them on the ground, now that's fast. Big hard tree dogs, with dying locates a child could call.
I live in western Pa,hr north of Pittsburgh 45min from Ohio line. Everybody always talking about that Great coon dog tide out behind the barn, that no one new about BUT A COOOOOON DOG!!! Well I have him, no big names in his pedigree, but all coon dogs, and I've hunted with just about all of them.
Well this is what you was asking for, I breed not to what everybody has, But to what everybody will want. Line breeding is the only way.
Look at thread for Durbins Rambler x Clark's Finley River Sassy, ...Thanks and good hunting..

alot of dogs today have taken a nose dive in coon treeing ability. More people that are interested in "breeding" dogs than they are hunting them . So like i said, fewer coon hunters and more dog breeders that have no idea what a coondog is. People have stopped breeding for nose, track spead , accuracy and balance. Its more like people are looking at Looks, big mouth, and pedigree; when niether of those things have a thing to do with ability. Many Dogs today are made to look good on easy coons and nothing more. Alot of Dogs are many generations away from old top foundation stock and people are still having their dogs ride on their coat tails and without proving anything, get bred. Not to mention the generation after generation of stud dog out of each other that are never known for being a coondog, but more as a "reproducer".

If breeders where doing a good job now a days , people wouldnt need to go back and breed to old frozen semen. Its like why would you put old parts on a new car unless the new car wasnt made right? food for thought

usmccoonhunter sorry for the rant....but to answer your ? . Tom Lechlitner my friend has a breeding or two left off Grnitech Pkc ch Minklers Kansas Thunder. Thunder was a top coondog. excellent nose, ability. could move any kind of track and tree any kind of coon. excellent mouth and accurate locater. im not sure if he would part with any but i will ask

Truer words were never spoken!

The Germans who undoubtedly have the very best working and sporting breeds in the world breed to the future NEVER to the past.

If breeders would breed for the betterment of the breed instead of making money people wouldn't have to breed to dogs long since dead in order to retain qualities that should have been improved upon not lost.

I know you were looking for straws but there are a few dead accurate walkers left out there. Come and go hunting with me sometime and I will show you 2 of them. They don't strike fast and run their mouth the whole time their out there but when they don't miss hardly ever. They don't knock the tree down when they tree but they will stay all night and not pull to anything. They both split tree 90% of the time and never had to be hunted by themselves to do it, they did it on their own, from the start! The bad thing is, those mouthy, tree happy dogs are hard to beat in the hunts when the leaves are on!

I think this is the smartest thing ive read on the message boards! Lol

good luck. what i look for is traits with ability to tree coons, thats the foundation stock thats in a living dog. its out there in different places, but its not in most flavour of the month dogs, advertised.

theres more than we think though, its just not promoted hard, and can be hard to get your hands on, unless you find and breed to these hounds, and keep these ''traits and abilities'' in your pups, which can be harder than it sounds, because as the old saying goes, you don't know what you got till its gone.

FINLEY RIVER, LONE PINE, CLOVER, HAS THEM OLD TRAITS, TRACK AND TREE POWER WITH A SPEED AND ACCURACY
TRACKING TRAITS AND TREE ABILITY OF OLD BLOOD = the real thing.
NOTHING BEATS OLD FINLEY RIVER TRACKING TRAITS AND ACCURACY.
look for traits not titles, papers don't tree coons.
