Advice on a blood line that Fits my style

I'm just getting back into coon hunting and I got to admit thus far in my search for a hound that suits me I have come up empty handed. First and for most I will be doing a lot more pleasure hunting than comp hunting. I would just like to have a registered dog that I could comp hunt if the day ever arose that I wanted to, cause at the moment I'm hunting hounds that I bred for hog dogs and they are unregistered. what I'm looking for most is accuracy and hunt. Not necessarily a dog that will set the woods on fire and go a 1/2 mile before he actually starts hunting for a coon but one that will cover ground in search of one. Speed is not a real concern. I honestly don't care if he trails and works a track for an hour, long as he comes up with meat in the tree just more time I get to listen to him. I prefer Blueticks but would consider a English or redbone. Anyways thanks for the advise in advance.

I hope you are able to find something that suits you.

I sure don't know about every bloodline in the Bluetick breed, but the combination of traits you are looking for is uncommon to find in one dog.

The hard hunters are typically not going to be methodical, track straddling careful track dogs.

Drive in one area typically translates into drive in another.

Dogs that are bred to hunt hard usually also hustle a track hard.

Didn't you start a thread last week and said you had better hounds than anyone?

About 2 years ago I started getting back into coon hunting for the first time since I use to go back before my grandfather passed away 20 years or so ago and it just seems to me like competition hunting has ruined what coon hunting is too me, it's supposed to be about spending time in the woods with friends and family and breeding and raising good hounds that will tree coons. now it seems like people are just breeding papers and not coon dogs. I have tried countless dogs and have yet to find one hound that I would pay money for. All of them either have no hunt to them, or are just slick treeing idiots . Then when you give people your opinion about the dog it's always the same answer well he's bred this way you could just breed him. The dogs that I'm hunting now are just young dogs that I bred for hog dogs and decided to make coon dogs out of and I would put them against any dog I've hunted around so far. If we were hunting to see who could come home with the most meat at the end of the night. just seems like the UKC rules and circle points have ruined coondogs. I for one hunt year round and it seems like no one now a days wants to hunt except for the cold nights and on average not more than 3 months a year. I personally do not feel you should own a dog that your not going to hunt more a few nights a year and think that people should be more strict on their breeding programs. If a dog will not get out and hunt strike a track and come to tree with meat in it then it should not be bred regardless what his bloodlines are.

Whitey which is stylish clover

Skuna river my personal favorite, which has lead into hubs homer, when Fred was bred to his mother accidentally, she had hubs. Hubs has produced lockbox, jiggs, bone, etc.
Fred and hubs generally throw traits more known from there mother queen, tree dogs that can track.

There is also skuna river bark, he was a brother to Fred, Eli stone is a well respected dog right now on the pro circuit doing lots of winning, but the jury is still out on his ability to reproduce.

Wipe out also is known for hard hunting accurate hounds.

These are generally the lines I hear about when the terms cold nosed, hard hunting , and accuracy come up.

Skuna river,clover and wipe out.

If I had to name one dog to get a pup out of I would personally recommend getting a bone pup, he is a proven reproducer that throws a nice balance of traits. Jmo

went through about 20 head couldn't find nothing that I personally cared for....most just didn't have any desire to hunt the others were just slick treeing idiots. That's why I gave up and started some young dogs that I had

My question is are you trying dogs under a certain price or on a budget? There is alot of time involved in makin a dog! If you have don so well with your hog dogs just buy a pup and give it a go.

You need to give a bit more info imo. What breed are you looking for? Then from there try to narrow it done to a bloodline.

most of the dogs I've tried have been in the 700 to 1200 range. I'm looking for a pup now that's why I started this thread trying to get advise on a pup that should be somewhat what I want. I'm looking for the most track for track trailing accurate line of blue dogs being bred right now...I know there's probably not a lot of them being bred this way cause I wouldn't imagine they'd do very well in comp hunts but that's what I'm looking for is cold trailing accuracy

If you are looking for a blue pup Scott Jordan may still have a pup out of uchtmans thorn and his albert bred female that would probally fit what you are looking for he goes by scopus blue on this board. I have a male from that cross that has been running and treeing his own coon since 5 1/2 mos old he is 7 mos old now and has been fairly straight.

Well ill be you not satisfied with a 700 dollar dog!lol i would expect a $1200 dog to be decently started at best! I think the pup route miggt be your best bet if you dont wanna pay for a dog.

I'm no expert. But have you tried the OLD Uchtmann stuff? Like out of blue ranger 3 or 4. I have a female that's linebred on ranger 4. she's definitely a cold trailer, and not fast anymore. She was at one time. Her age and body ain't there anymore.

There's more guys on the bluetick board that can point you in a direction to what you're seeking.
