Pup
If you live where a pup can run loose, it will help a lot , what I do is keep him/her in a kennel until dark then let the pup out for the night and put it back in the kennel in the morning, this basically simulates the routine of hunting at night, laying up in the day, as far as age, I would do some research on the bloodline so you have a general idea of what to expect as far as progression in the woods is concerned, but mostly the pup it's self will demonstrate intrsest in its surroundings that will give you an idea when he's ready, I like to let a pup get big enough to keep up with an older dog before I start taking him out, this will help prevent bad habits from developing, such as, babbling trying to keep up, quiet hunting and coming in to you because of exhausted from trying to keep up, etc... Good luck with the pup hope he makes you a nice hound....Gerald
