Just turned 4 year old walker female. Singled out basically her entire life. Will run a track fine and has several good years of locate and tree.

I ran her this summer with a younger plott just starting out. She seemed fine and treed fine. Lately, though, she seems to want no interest in the tree, especially if she's beat to it by another dog.

The past 2 nights I ran her with 2 other strange hounds. Ran well, tracked well, treed on her own but when joined she backed off and let the other 2 tree. I put a lead on her and walked her back to the tree then she joined in and treed hard again.

I've heard of the "me too" dogs, the joiners that wait for the tree bark, but this one seems just the opposite. No doubt in my mind that she'd tree alone, but just can't seem to handle other dogs at the tree.

Should I tie her back and not let her taste if we knock one out? I'd really like to keep hunting her with other dogs as it is simply more enjoyable for me, but will do what it takes to get her back on the right track. I almost feel I've messed her up by hunting her with other dogs.

BTW, these other dogs have not been ill to her in any way that I've seen. No tree fighting or aggression towards one another at all.

Any thoughts???

So if your hunting her by her self she hunts and trees fine?

Yes. Hunted alone she trees fine. When I leashed her and walked her back to the tree she treed hard with the other 2 dogs. But if beaten to the tree or not her tree she will stand back about 6-8 feet and watch the others tree. Comes off as very disinterested. Seems like even if it's her tree when others arrive she will back off a little.

Well a couple of thing may have caused your problem. One is that The plotts that you were hunting her with may have been a tree jacker and she may not be a strong enough tree hound to stand being fell on all the time while at the tree.

Another thing may be that those dogs may have been throwing some fang and now she doesn't trust any dog to not hurt her when she is treeing beside them.

Just a couple of possibilities that you may have caused your self by not knowing the company you turn loose with.

Put her back by herself and see if she trees satisfactorily. If so, only put her with a dog that sits down at the tree when treeing or one that is VERY gentle and doesn't move much around the tree when treeing.

I had a female that would do that all I did was kept hunting her with other dogs not all the time usally once a week rest of the time just me and her but she seemed to out grow it as time went on to the point she would be on the tree right next to the other dogs did the same thing brought her in while the other dogs where treeing petted her up never know she could out grow it my dog was older than yours when I got her
