Dog returning to tree

Just wondering if anybody has a tried and true method to stop a hound from returning to tree. I decided to bump mine last night and it seemed to confuse him bc he met me off the next tree but did start treeing after handling him.

Don't think I want to use the E Collar for this correction if problem continues. Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

i cut him right from the tree with the coon in it and dont let him come back to it, i dont use an e collar for this, use a command like DEAD then keep chasin him away, if he has any brains it wont take long, and stay at the tree cause he might circle around pretty far and come back in

thats what worked for me im sure there are alotta methods

Thanks. I think that's what I'm going to start doing!

I remember reading in one of the Walking with Wick books that he used the E Collar for this but I didn't like how mine reacted to it.

Thanks

The way i see it, how i do it is not going to hurt a dog at all so if it doesnt work then try something else, if hes dead set on coming back ill go to a switch before the e collar

...

A guy taught me to get a leafy branch cut your dog loose and then turn your light off and stand at the tree and everyte he tries to get back on it don't yell at him don't say anything just start shaking the branch all over him and chase him off a little you don't need to whoop on em....this helped with me.

I start by walkin em about 30 yards before recasting, then watch close on the garmin,if they are heading back i change their mind with a bump before they make it back to the tree. usually only takes a couple times and they get the idea.

If you have a buddy with you, leave your buddy at the tree with a switch, walk your dog off of the tree 50 yards or so and turn him/her loose. If the dog goes back to the tree your buddy is there at the tree waiting on him with the switch to run the dog off of it.
You can switch places with the buddy leading the dog off and you doing the correcting if you wanted to be the one doing the correcting.

Im with you on not juicing a dog at the tree and i train all mine to a whistle and if i hit it and they dont pull off they remember to the next time they hear that whistle a ash or hickory switch will work wonders to fix this problem.

One thing that helps is to NEVER shoot a coon AFTER pulling the dogs off of the tree. Seeing the coon and returning to shoot it or seeing it after the dogs return and shooting it will only reinforce their returning to the tree.
