The first question I would ask is, "do you think this could have been an honest mistake???" I mean, did the two dogs sound very similar??? If both you and the handler that was calling him both say "no" then my next question is, if you knew it was your dog and the two dogs sound nothing alike then why weren't you calling your dog???? Don't get me wrong, I am not taking sides or making excuses, but these are questions you might be asked if this was taken back to a master of hounds.
Usually, the guy that calls the wrong dog ends up paying for it at the end of the night...I had a fellow handler in a nite hunt last year that had a female with what I would call a double tree mouth. That is to say she would tree with one voice and about every third bark or so throw a bark that was very deep. To hear this dog tree it really sounded like there were two dogs on the tree...I treed my dog, believing it had to be him, there were two dogs at the tree barking....and I was wrong!!! Went in to the tree and saw only one dog. When you call the other guys dog you can get his plus, but you don't really know the dog and you can get his minus just as easy.
