as a handler in the hunts you cant be shy or slow with your wit or you will get eaten up.you can have the best hound there ,but can come in last if your asleep or unsure.people will do anything to win.theres alot to competition hunting that isnt a factor when you pleasure hunt.sounds like that handler played and preyed on your being new .i would just chaulk it up to a learning experience if your going to still comp.hunt.

Id strike my dog off the same bark. Then bring it to the judges attention that he struck your dog.

The first question I would ask is, "do you think this could have been an honest mistake???" I mean, did the two dogs sound very similar??? If both you and the handler that was calling him both say "no" then my next question is, if you knew it was your dog and the two dogs sound nothing alike then why weren't you calling your dog???? Don't get me wrong, I am not taking sides or making excuses, but these are questions you might be asked if this was taken back to a master of hounds.
Usually, the guy that calls the wrong dog ends up paying for it at the end of the night...I had a fellow handler in a nite hunt last year that had a female with what I would call a double tree mouth. That is to say she would tree with one voice and about every third bark or so throw a bark that was very deep. To hear this dog tree it really sounded like there were two dogs on the tree...I treed my dog, believing it had to be him, there were two dogs at the tree barking....and I was wrong!!! Went in to the tree and saw only one dog. When you call the other guys dog you can get his plus, but you don't really know the dog and you can get his minus just as easy.

calling

yes both dogs were strike both ways BUT i hunt my dog enough to know the difference between the 2 and yes i should have said something a lot earlier but to be honest like i said im knew to comp hunting and am still learning how the rules work believe me im more mad at myself now than anything for the simple fact that i put 2 first place wins on her in the last two hunts. so yes this was my learning experience and no it will never happen again but i started doing this for fun and thats the way i want it to stay so i try not to get to exited over ignorance the best part was for the last half hour of hunt time the other dogs never went out more than 40 yards heck they even followed us for 500 yds to get mine so im still proud of my little blu main street texas rose {she hunts DOESN'T follow}

It does happen at times as a honest mistake but it happens way to often by people trying to get an edge
