I have one dog who is bad about rooting up the yard fence and squirming out. I have a 50 mile hot box running around the top of the fence to keep the horses off. I thought about running a strand around the bottom to keep him in, but I'm afraid my good dogs will pee on it. If that happens, will that stop my male dogs from being able to make pups in the future? I don't plan on breeding my dogs, but if I like the way they turn out, I may change my mind.

just put the stand high enough so he can't get under it shoulder height he won't pee on it and once he bumps into a time or two he will know enough to stay away and if he crawls under it just lower some as for making him fence shy you bet and he should be the last thing you want is one that's never run in to one to have it happen at a hunt and bolt away in uncontrolled place the neighbor keeps his bull mastiffs in 3 strand electric fence and they never get out

They make a pet fencer which is what I use. I run a strand across the very top and one a foot off the ground through the entire kennel fence. I wrap the gate all the way around it and jump it to the main fence. I have all females. They ain't getting out and can't back up to the fence and them old horn dogs ain't getting in. LOL

Just some words of advice. Dont use a livestock charger for your dogs. Most livestock chargers are constant current and under certain situations the dog is basically stuck to the hot wire and cant get free due to muscle seizure or stiffning. A pet charger is intermittent current and will give plenty of pop but will break enough between pulses to give the dog time to get away. Under most circumstances you should be able to allow the dog to get hit once or twice and then should be able to unplug the charger with no more problems with digging around the fence. Dogs learn quickly what that silver wire means. Not trying to be a know-it-all, just passing on what I have learned from experience.

not true livestock fencers pulse I know because I've owned several over the years and seen dogs get it as many farmers around here have electric fences and the coon slide right under a couple of winters ago I was hunting close by no cattle I said its got to be off wearing leather gloves just about the time I got a good hold a fireball flew off elbow my buddy was rolling on the ground laughing a couple weeks later I ran into the farmer at local country store and say hey why you wasting electricity on pasture with no animals in it and he was rolling on the floor laughing and said solar charger now I know why that pup wasn't coming out because he was way smarter then me lol !

I keep my dogs in with an electric fence. Be careful though if you check the ratings, they should contained with a smallest fencer, rated for dogs. Like a 2.5 miler, not a 50.

They never get out they respect the fence.
