In the past with the lights we had we went to a high percentage of trees more less expecting to see a coon if we could find it ! With 4 guys shining in 10 minutes we usually did ! But with these leaf burning lights they got now it's not unusual to see where in a two hour cast they're making 4 or 5 circle trees I still hunt with a wheat head if that coons up there I can usually find it in 10 minutes what's different today ????

Those leaf burning lights as you call them all have switches on them and most have colored LED's. The wise men have learned to use that switch on low. The very wise man ask for the first two minutes to shine himself.

that is very simple too answer.. the new lights are way to bright .. the color is bright white.. i use the 5100 head find way more coons..

The 1st LEDs where a buleish color made it had to see coons fur in trees. The 1st LEDs seemed to make the leafs turn white and reflect back at you. The newer LEDs are have more of a yellow tint and are a lot easier to find coons with. There will always be people who shine wide open to start with.

I agree the lights are not the problem. But I agree 100% that many are being used in a way that hinders finding the coon and don't enhance it.
I can't stand to be standing on one side of a tree trying to find a coon using the low side of light with two or three other guys shinning the tree from all angles with their lights on high. Makes it hard.

I remember when my dad and grandpap hunted with carbide lights. I hunted with wheat lights. When we got Sunburst and Raw Dawg (14v lights), they practically paid for themselves (late 70's) in extra coon hides. Now we have 28V lights, and some still have a problem finding coon. A good light can only do so much. A good light will not tree a coon. You need a coondog for that! If you're not seeing a coon consistently, it's likely not a light problem!!!

My accuracy percentage in finding a coon is more closely related to the dog I'm hunting than the light I'm carrying!!!

A good light does make a difference, but a good dog makes a much bigger difference!!!
