I don't know how much you want to spend or how much "backing up" you want to do, but I use a Northern Lights Predator. It is a cordless headlamp and it is small enough to fit in my pocket and bright enough to shine a tree and find coons.
I wanted something that was usable if I got stuck with a flame out in a competition hunt. I also wanted hands free so I could lead my dog/s if I was in a hunt or pleasure hunting. Most of them are really good lights anyway, but the one thing I have found with anything "tactical" is that they are made to be real bright but not necessarily last very long. When they first came out I was impressed with how bright Surefire lights were...only to find that you had to carry a backpack full of batteries to keep them lit any length of time.
Honestly, some of the cheaper box store headlights they sell in the camping section will work fine, are not heavy and are not expensive. Some are even bright enough to shine the tree.
