The only redbone there....

I went to a $KC double header hunt this past Saturday with the Moonlight Outlaw Mac dog that Danny Biggert and I own. They hunted 6 casts of dogs that night but as usual ....I had the only redbone entered.
Mac looked good and treed several real live wild raccoons and ended up winning both the early and late rounds (second time he has doubled up like that). Had good hunts both casts and drew some great guys and some good walker dogs. Even drew Howard Delcamp both rounds. He and his brother john used to hunt redbones...but Howard was handling a nice walker female from Texas. I know we got a good crop of nice redbones out there with the skills to win.....but why don't they show up in bigger numbers. Heck, if you got a dog that goes hunting and trees real live raccoons... You can win in competition. These were hour long hunts and I think we looked at a total of 9 coons over the two casts. Its a lot of fun this time of year so I sure hope to see more redbones showing up and entering more hunts this fall. I'm surrounded by guys who post about their redbones on this forum and yet I hardly ever see em at a competition hunt. Come on out..gas is cheap now...live a little and have some fun and show what old red can do against those other breeds....he may just surprise you...and a few other folks

Thumbs up

Whether its me or you or others with redbones....I sure hope we have several to root for at the finals. I think we have more balance and depth in the redbone field this year than any year I can remember....let's hope the dogs stay healthy and the luck is with the red dogs this year.

There will only be one the rest of the week...two year old g man...
Cherry got really sick on me during the cast....drooling, kept trying to cough or throw up but couldn't quite get it out. By the end of the cast she could barely hold her head up or walk and acted slow, stiff and lethargic. I stopped and got some pepto at a drug store after the cast and poured some down her throat...a few mins later she threw up....and there was a piece of hot dog in there.
Thing is...I only fed her pro plan at 10 am yesterday morning and never had her anywhere she could have gotten ahold of a hot dog. I left the hunt and headed home with her in the front seat next to me and she slept the four hour drive home and could barely stand on wobbly legs when I got home and went right back to sleep as soon as I carried her in the house. She is better today but still not eating or acting right. We only made one drop about a mile back a gravel lane in the middle of nowhere so I think its odd that she found a 3/4 inch long piece of hot dog out in the woods last night .... But that's all I'm gonna say about it. She was fine all week and all day until we started hunting...just seems odd to me. She was ready for this hunt and as a 3 year old it was her final year to compete in the super stakes so its disapointing thatshe won't be there. I had taken all week off from work and reserved my entries for the whole week...but I can't hunt her like this so I will wish Tony and G Man the best and hope they can make a good showing.

Sorry to hear that Shane. That sounds awfully suspicious. I would say someone may have stooped to the lowest of levels to make sure they didn't get beat by a Red dog. No matter what the reason was, that is just a bad deal.

What a dang shame. Other than a low life, any chance some poisoned hot dogs in the woods where y'all cut loose? It's not too common but farmers have been known to try and wipe out yotes that way.

Anyhow, hope she gets well man.

She may have disgorged the hotdog, but I doubt that was what made her sick. Hotdogs are dog food! I know when I work the kitchen at my local club, my hounds get the leftover hotdogs and seem pretty happy with the treat. Someone drops a hotdog on the ground at the club or a child walks too close and just about any hound will pick it up. More likely it was something in the water that she wasn't used to.
The pepto bismol relieves symptoms, but it rarely cures anything serious. Dogs can pick up the flu when they hang out near other dogs at an event. Make sure she's up-to-date with kennel cough and other shots for that kind of thing, and take her to the vet if it continues. She's worth it!
Sorry to said like your mother, but I'm old enough to be and nearly lost one good red hound that had eaten a tennis ball when I wasn't looking...
It took him over a year to vomit it up, and he was pretty sick until he did.

Luck hasn't been good for me these last 2 nights... Monday he made 2 big huge trees solo & couldn't find them, then tonight (Tuesday) we had a 3 way split each over .75 away from each other... Every dog had a coon, but 75&100 doesn't beat 100&100.... I've got 2 more nights, we're going to give it a wirl!

Go get em Tony. Shane, sorry to hear about Cherry. It sounds to me like some farmer was trying to poison coyotes or coons. Surely all of those walker dogs were not worried about one poor Redbone. I hope she recovers quickly.

That's probably it Richard. The guys I hunted with seemed like nice enough fellows. She ate a piece of hot dog somewhere and it may have been in the woods. We think she has aspiration pneumonia from inhaling some of the foam and other liquid she was trying to cough up. She has a fever and we have her on antibiotics. She is eating canned dog food but still weak and puney feeling....may be like that for awhile. Good luck to Tony and G Man...he almost got a win last night...but its hard to beat the competition when they are split treeing and all are having coons....

And everyone keeps asking why they are hunting/breeding those automatic first strike dogs. I'll take one everytime.
I remember when I first started competing in those big S/S hunts with all of that money on the line. I threw up and felt pretty puny myself a couple of times. I hope that she gets over it pretty fast.

It looks like Tony had some company last night. I saw where Billy Beckham and Roscoe were there also.

There were no Redbone winners at the Fall S/S again this year.
But I see where a lil Redbone pup named Lilly has just won her $100 and is now ready to hunt next Spring.

She is still recovering from aspiration pneumonia from inhaling stuff she was coughing up. We have her on antibiotics and her temp is getting near normal again but she is still not 100%.
