If I Had Only Knew Then What I Know Now

Man how i regret not having HAMMER collected. I always knew i was blessed with a special coonhound from the time HAM was 4 mnths old. When me and Bryon McLHaney watched him fight a 20 pnd boar coon to the end.I knew there was something about him .
He treed coon consistently from 7 mnths old to the day he disappeared. During all this i knew i had a coondog, but never had a clue what a repoducer he was gonna be.
HAMMER is gone now. He had a total of 53 registered pups.
He now has 8 titled dogs. I would love to have seen what he would have done withh 100 pups on the ground. I wish and wish, that i would have had him collected. I learned a hard lesson in not collecting him. If i ever have a chance to own another like him .I will deffinately have it collected. Lesson may be learned to late.Probably never own another as special as he was to me.

Todd, I know how you feel. Im trying to find the right female to breed to Junior because Im badly wanting to raise another litter off him before he gets too old. I continue to remind myself and you remember this also...... If any stud dog, or female for that matter, and/or their particular line of dogs are truly worth breeding and reproducing more pups, their ability to reproduce better than themselves should be passed on in their pups!! A lot of people mistake a great reproducer for one that reproduced an "X" amount of titled dogs, not even taking time to look and see how that line reproduced before then and after them. High percentages of Nt Chs and Gr Nt Chs do not make a dog a good reproducer. How good were those titled dogs really when it competed with 3 other top notch dogs? We as humans seem to forget the hunts we lost to top notch dogs and brag heavily on those we won against dogs that may have been mediocre at best! The line of dogs Hammer comes from has proven to reproduce for years and years, dogs after dogs. Don't worry about not collecting his semen cuz its in his pups veins to reproduce better than themselves. That's why that line is the best in our breed! Take what they've won collectively plus the way they've comtinued to reproduce as long as they have and its hard to argue. Good luck and God bless.
