Thoughts about old hounds

We have all heard the saying can't teach an old dog new tricks do you think that is true ? I have heard people say after a dog turns 5 or 6 it is what it is , i have also heard that dogs can continue to learn just like people can. Everybody has seen an older person get a cellphone or computer or even a Garmin for the first time at first they may have a hard time with it but with practice they usually get it. So my question is do you think a hound can do the same like a dog that hunts close learn to hunt deeper or a man made independent dog be re taught to pack hunt or a dog not tone broke to come in be taught to come in when toned. Now im talking a bout 7 ,8 yrs. plus whats every ones opinion.

Of course you can teach an old dog new things but something like hunting close that was inherited instead of taught won't change

A guy gave me a 3 year old dog that just ran loose at his house and treed possums. I hunted her by herself and at first she would only hunt out about 100 or 150 yards. I didn't whoop her for it or shock her for it and now she will go 3/4 of a mile to find a track if she needs to. Decided it on her own.

for several years have tone broke all my dogs from oldest to young pup to come and handle without a lead walking in or out of anywhere. very easy with repetition.

few years back my buddy had old plott dog that was awesome dog but tough to catch at times unless treed. dog was around 10 years old and i put tritonics on him. toned him once and would come when called and follow until sent hunting again. super smart dog and when collar on listened as good as any dog ive seen. often wondered if had collar on when was young. LOL.
