Blowing Smoke vs's Excitement????

I've always heard there are two things no one wants to hear; bragging and complaining. I know there are people who are the best, have the best, and always do the best!! If you don't believe it, just ask them.

Me, I get excited when my dog, your dog, or anyone's dog does good. I have had some good hunts, and even talked about it on the message board, not to blow smoke, but old blue did good and that excites me!!! I don't lie about it, or exaggerate it, or embellish it, but I do get excited. When they do bad, I call it like it is.

When someone tries to tell you that I get on here and blow smoke b/c my dog wins a hunt, or does good, or receive an award, it's not because I'm bragging. They are dogs, and are capable of anything. They treed a coon...a coon, hardly worth bragging about.

When coon hunting, or seeing a young dog do good, or watching an old veteran hound do his job CEASES TO EXCITE ME.......I will hang it up for good.

Good post Craig and I understand completely where you are coming from. I think some of us let our guard down on here as we feel we are talking to friends but half them friends feel we are just blowing smoke about our dogs and just looking for something to throw back at us. These critters are just DOGS. I respect my dogs and make sure they are taken care of but they are still dogs. Right now I start my mornings off feeding some 4 week old pups and while I am with them I watch every move they make. I look for them acting smart and acting dumb and try to figure out how to make life easier on them and myself and I get enjoyment from doing it. Someone ask a question on here about pups I share my experience. Doesn't mean my pups are any better than anyone's or doesn't mean they are going to be better than the next dog. Just means I enjoy watching them grow and giving them the chance to make something and don't mind sharing what I learn along the way. Sometime in the near future you will probably see some pictures of them on here chasing a hot dog or something. It will just be sharing with friends and hopefully encouraging someone else to work/play with their pups and not let them stand in a pen. Heck any pup will chase a hotdog and while they are doing it you can dream big about it being a coon. Just this morning for the first time they responded like I felt they should as I called them to come get their food. Simple thing like that gave me some of the excitement your talking about. I sure didn't get any excitement out of the old dogs last night. lol

For the Love of a Good Hound

MR. Edwards, there is nothing wrong with being proud of and loving your hounds. I'm the exact same way, and like you, tell my hunting stories just the way they happen, the good, bad and the ugly. I don't call it blowing smoke, I call it having a passion for something that is dear to my heart and for the love of hearing a good hound in the still of the night. When you take that same hound to town and win, that's just icing on the cake. Enjoy and savor every moment and don't let jealous people who like Drama more than a good hound stop you from sharing your excitement. Congrats again on the win with a great looking hound. Take Care and Good Hunting!!

Talk about sharing excitement, I've been coon hunting for 55 years and last week my 10 month old pup ran a coon 600 yards alone and treed it. You would have thought I just won the world hunt. If that don't excite ya, stay at the house.

I always listen a lot closer if someone other than the owner is bragging on a dog.
Most of my friends tell it like it is, the good the bad and the ugly. A couple never do anything but tell me how great a dog is. Those couple dont get taken very seriously.
I know a couple more that never say anything good about their dog, but if they tell me they are hunting regularly, i know theyve got a goodn.
Bottom line is that with coonhunters you almost have to know the source of the info and then read between the lines.

I always like a good story regardless of who's telling it. With age and experience you learn to tell the prime beef from the bull s***.

I've written on here about a lot of my hunts. Not near as much now as I use to. I just bumped one story yesterday about Enoob and Edirp so a friend could read it.

I post pics and videos of young pups getting started because they 're what excites me and keeps me doing what I do. The day a young dog or pup getting started is the day I will hang up my leash.

Folks coonhunt for different reasons. I do it for what I experience in the woods at night. I don't necessarily have to tell anybody about it to make it a better night. I will sure tell someone if I believe they want to know but I try hard not to bug or bore someone to death with my hunt stories.

Everyone is wired a little different, I guess.

Coonhunting is very pleasurable if you take in the little things. In the hustle and bustle of life I take so much for granted that sometimes the little things that can bring me joy just go right by. With my hounds it is different. Simple things like feeding pups and watching them progress everyday can bring a lot of joy if you take it all in. Funny thing is, I am out there feeding my pups and I remember pictures HOBO and others have put on here of his pups getting their first meals away from Mom. Each day they seem to do things faster and better than the day before.

I thought everybody had a good un. Now yall telling me that aint true? I mean to hear them tell it. They are great ones . The blowing smoke dont bother me at all. Most do it. Its just part of it. Aint just in coondogs either. It's horses, cars, and everything inbetween. I just dont believe about 15/16th of what I hear and thats from nobody. I gotta see it done.
