is it normal?

my 8 month old pup keeps barking through a no bark collar and goes absolutely berserk because he keeps getting shocked. I was wondering if this is normal and will he get the message or can it ruin a dog?

I had one here last year that was like that for a while. When I put it on her all you heard was bark, squeel, bark, squeel, bark, squeel. I turned it up a little higher for her and left her figure it out "I can't have kennel barkers here"
She eventually did get the drift.

In my experience it is not normal to have to put a bark collar on a dog to begin with. If the dog barks that much, to the point he is a nuisance and has to be stopped with a collar, then he is the exception not the standard. Most of the dogs I have owned were kennel quiet and I have owned every breed at one time or another.
Some of the worse kennel barkers I have had were out of the Lone Pine/Finley River line of Walkers...a butterfly could flit across the yard and 4 hours later they were still "treed."
I currently have a bluetick that has the bug. One thing is for certain...there is not an easy fix. It takes time and effort to train them to be quiet if they want to bark. The good news is that I haven't seen it affect the way they turn out as an adult dog. Most of the kennel barker types I have had were good hard tree dogs that had a lot of stay power and tended to be very "gamey" or have a lot of drive.
When they do what yours is doing with a collar and insist on barking right thru it, you might be in for a tough time getting that one to stop.

Had some that would bark thru most bark collars including Tri-tronics.. but since getting a Dogtra YS-500 have not seen it yet.

trust me I had about every kind of bark collar made before the Tri tronics( and it was the best at that time) most were good at relieving you of hard earned cash.
