I leased Izzy's mom, Dual Ch Becky, to breed to Dual Gr Ch Bowen's Blue Deuce.



Becky was known for Big litters. She didn't stop. She had 10 live and 4 stillborn. Little did we know, #15 was still inside her, dead. That night, she got a fever. We rushed her to the vet, they gave her a shot and we were told, she cannot nurse the babies.
My wife decided to bring them in the house and hand raise them. 1 died immediately, leaving 9.. Princess then stopped breathing. She gave her mouth to mouth and refused to let another die... Yeah, she made it. She fell in love with Izzy.. cause she had "Mickey Mouse" on her side... Thus started PR. Lethal Blue Izabell Sitara.. Cherokee for Beautiful Morning Star.

Izzy grew to make a beautiful hound.


I hunted her and she was a get gone, hard hunting fool. Easy to start.
When Izzy was 11 months old, my wife and I decided to drive to California, taking a 3 weeks vacation to see America and Relatives. Not wanting Izzy to sit for 4 weeks, I found a supposedly Great trainer and for $400 a month, he would have her in condition in that 4 weeks. When we got back, he told me how good she was doing and asked for 3 more weeks, as their kill season came in within 2 days. I agreed and sent him the money....after 2 weeks of not hearing from him, My gut told me to go get her. He agreed to meet me in Columbus, Ohio.. in a parking lot. ( he was from Kentucky) ..........

Little did I know..... This is what greeted me....







Her spirit had been hurt, she could not bark, just air... My wife begged me to just get the dog and leave, she had seen the rage in my eyes. She road in the front seat on My wife's lap on the way home. On the way home, we stopped at a rest stop to get her some water. She was licking the acorn chips from the sidewalk that chipmunks had left. I bought her 2 packs of cheese crackers. Offered her one and it was the only time she bit me, trying to eat it so fast. She was actually breathing so slow, Kris thought she died in her arms.... It was Sunday, so the next day, I was sitting at the Vet's office when they opened. They took her right in, gave her an IV.. bloodwork.. checked her over. Extremely Anemic, Low sugar count, Extreme malnutritioned... and he said, 1 more week, she would have died....

Following the vet's advice, 6 small meals a day, so she didn't gorge herself.. Within 2 weeks...


The "trainer" said she had worms... Guess not... After more investigation, he said he only took 4 dogs a month, but he had 16, 4 to a pen... Izzy had a Fear, and I mean a Raging fear of strangers. Strange dogs, Strange places... She was finally able to hunt in January, healthwise, But the vet warned us, so much atrophy of her muscles, they would have to be built slowly. When she grew tired, she would come in and shake.. My wife would carry her out of the woods. In the Meantime, If I took a stranger with me.. Izzy would sit beside me, not moving. No matter what the dogs did. She would just sit and stare at them... As she got used to a few of them, She started to come back to herself....


I also won't show a dog till they can tree their own coon.. So I put her in a world Qualifier.. first show.. she won it...


Izzy finished to Gr. Sh Ch. in 10 shows, with 3 BOS.. Winning the Ohio Governors Cup, Ohio Spring Classic and an RQE along the way. If there was a male judge, Izzy would lean into me everytime they came around. I had to talk to her, reassuring her I was there and it was ok...

Then I started to work on her for the stranger problem. She got to be where she would go, if no-one reminded her of Someone in Kentucky. In one hunt, she looked at a handler, tail went under her belly and laid down beside me... But I kept it up. She got to where as long as she saw me coming to the tree... she was alright. A lot of judges were ok with it... a few used it against her.. but that is ok.. she has to get used to it..
Her first breakthrough was the Ashland spring hunt, with my stepson handling her, she placed 5th.. Alittle later, she won a 4th .... then a 2nd with +575 and was high scoring female of the hunt. I continued to work her, as much as I could... hunting her 3-5 nights a week.. alone, with strange dogs... a few night hunts...
On Feburary 14th, Valentines Day, There was a hunt close by, My wife, who wanted her Nite ch title as much or more than I did.. asked me to take her. After a kill season and all the hard work I put into her, she said we could Celebrate it Sunday... So I did, Dressed warm, cut loose during a snowstorm.... Izzy did as well as could be expected. luck was her side, as we drew and very good Bluetick Male... Won the cast and the hunt..
She is now Gr Ch Nite Ch Pr. Lethal Blue Izabell Sitara...





One of the best females I have ever owned. And whatever she has become, has been all Natural, to overcome what she did...
I want to thank Zach Bowen, The owner of Deuce, We have become good friends over all this, Damon Shivers, He has helped so much with Izzy and helped me when I Got down about her. Friends like that are hard to find.. and especially my wife, Kris, for her support in my coonhounds... All her help... and devotion.
Izzy is bred to Gr Ch Nite Ch Pr Hillbilly's Smokey River Dutch and all the pups were spoken for within 2 weeks after breeding her. I hope the maternal instinct helps her lose what little bit of fear she still has.... If not, she still has a home for life.. hers and mine...

What she was and what she is now is amazing! First time I saw Izzy she took to me ok but them eyes were the tail of her pain! I started to hunt with Dan and got to see her go from scared to a very nice hound it says alot to me PURE NATURAL! She is very tuff know still doesn't trust strangers all that much. She can flat run a track and is a very intense tree dog! Love Izzy!

The trainer taught her how to go without eating, fear strangers that abused her, but nothing about coonhunting.... and how not to break her spirit......Deuce lives in W. Va with Zach Bowen.

I'm sure there are a lot of great dogs out there with great stories behind them, hopefully none like yours with the trainer part in there, hopefully no other dog has had or will have to go through what Izzy had to go through.
Dan those pups out of Dutch and Izzy should be the real deal. Good luck with the pups and Izzy, and thank you for the story.
