Uncle/neice cross

How many uncle/neice crosses have any of you all made or know of with good result ? Or is it to close for comfort ? Debating on making a cross with my old dog out of screwey lewey x uchtmans polkie and my gyp that is out of jobe x uchtmans Magic next fall. Thanks for any input !

several done...

I have done that type several times over the years. for the most part, it is pretty good.. with the hounds behind Screwy Lewey. i see no reason why it would not work..
one thing sure you will never know unless you try.

I have hunted with a whole bunch of the dogs behind the two you are thinking of crossing.

It ought to work.

i think it matters more about the individual specimens than it does that that they are uncle niece

Absolutely.

But when you breed that close, it pays to know something about their background too.

As has already been mentioned, all good & bad traits will be intensified.

Some negative I have seen & experienced with such crosses is quirkiness & medical/physical issues.

Example of Quirkiness: Dogs that are subject to sull up & not operate/hunt with other unfamiliar dogs/humans present.

Example of Medical Issues: Hypothyroidism & allergies.

There is a bluetick breeder that has been doing this type of crosses for awhile. You can see his line of breeding always around the top or at the top of the winner circle often. For me personally it's always been 1 of my favorite crosses to make or get a pup out of. Good luck.

Picked up A new gyp today. "uchtmans blue rose" (zeb x Dixie)from Dale Adkins in Fort Gay, WV. Hopefully I get her bred to my old rock dog (screwey lewey x polkie) when she comes in heat. Would like to thank George Jeffers and Dale Adkins for making it possible for me to get her. Picked her up from Dales home this evening and he is a world class guy.

Ya know

we all plan and hope on these crosses trying to line up the strong traits we want to intensify and strenthen. I think you have a made a wise choice. Good luck. I have researched a lot of successful uncle/ niece crosses. They all seem to show a common strong reproducing female through the pedigree that puts her stamp on them !!

I'm hoping so. Rock has only been crossed 1 time. And I only know where 2 of the pups went to. Both will run and tree their own coon according to owners and are 1 year old. From what I have read Rose is a good reproducer and I look forward to trying to get them crossed. And Ally will not be bred to him til age 2 and it would be the uncle / niece cross. Maybe out of either cross I will find my Rock 2 hahaha.
