Try checking to see is the "PM receiving" option is enabled. Go to the upper right. Click on "user cp". Then upper middle click on "edit options". Then look at the 7th option down from the top. It will say" Enable Private Messaging?", from there look to the far right it will have a "yes" or "no". Make sure "yes" is selected.

I know you said you cleaned out your "boxes" . There are 3 boxes, all it takes is one of those to have too many. There is the "inbox" and "Sent items" and " Message Tracking". "Message Tracking" fills up as you send messages. It stores them and the will pile up on you. This would be my guess as to your problem with receiving PMs. "Message Tracking" will need cleaned out like the other "boxes".

Its still not working. Try clicking on "user cp" then on your right click on "View All Private Messages", goto the left side of this screen, just above where messages would be, you will see a box that says "Show messages From:" you may need to click on that box and change that setting. So, click on that box and change that setting to "the beginning". This may show you have more messages, if thats the case you will need to "delete" more. Give that a try.
