!!---Garmin 320 or Alpha 100--Which you prefer---!!!

Which one do you like better, and why ?
Is the range better on one versus the other ?
I have the 320 w/ DC50.........No problems with it.
I haven't needed a shocker for years, so I don't know that I really need it.
Any feedback would be Great.
Thanks

Hi Tim,,I just got the alpha and tt15 last week,so my thoughts don't count,,lol,,,I'm just learning it,,I like both the 320 and alpha, they seem to track about the same distance,,only difference to me is the training ability,,plus you can track a buddy if they also have the alpha,,I do like the lights on the collars,,you can set them to double or triple blink, or be on continuously,,and they are bright,,seems to help keep the yotes away,,
To me the only advantage of having the alpha is if you use the training unit too,,this way you have both units into one unit,,and they are simple to use,I also haven't needed a training unit in years,,but we just got a pup afew months back,so I'm sure we will need it sooner or later,,it does suck you can't track both from either unit,,,or at same time,,,me and brother hunt together all the time,,now we can't track each others dogs,,so I will be purchasing another alpha very soon,,then I can track him too,,,lol,,,HAPPY HUNTING

You forgot vibrate,,lol,,but that's only on the tt15,,and I gotta agree,I like the charging on the handheld sure beats switching batteries all the time,,and it might just be me,,but handheld seems to hold a charge much longer than the replaceable batteries,,I've hunted 2 nights in a row total of 8 hours and still got 69% battery left,,I would have been changing batteries in the 320 by now,,starting to like the alpha more and more each time I go out.

Kevin, how you been ?
Thanks for the info, I like the 320 but hate having to change the batteries all the time. This is one of the main reason I am looking at the Alpha.
Thanks

Alpha look up other post on here before u get one, they have issues they need to fix before they cont, to take people money! You call Garmin with the issues they act like your the only one . look up the other post.
I never had the 320 but I do have 2 Alpha and you'll need two too if u hunt hard , you will either buy another so you have one to hunt with while one is being fixed all the time.. They have random shut off like crazy , both mine been sent in numerous times and still same problem on both . I now just live with it!!

Garmin Fix your crap and quit taking people money with a defected products!!

You will buy a brand new one ,within a month when you send it off to be fixed ,and they will send you a refurbished one that been worked on that's some one else's junk problems!!

I've had my alpha for almost 2 years now. I haven't had any of the issues as above. Mine has worked flawlessly. Not saying I haven't had the collar loose signal but as bad as the 320.

My alpha locks up and shuts off all the time. As do my buddies alphas. It is maddening but you just live with it. The 320 is a good unit, other than the batteries.

Im knocking on wood here myself but my alpha dont shut off like that either. I hope it dont start. If I was getting something new it'd be the alpha. You can bet the 320 want be around much longer. It will be put like the 220.

I have both,,I've had 320 since sept. and alpha as of 2 weeks ago,,they are both very good units, but I am already liking my alpha much better, everything is much easier to get to once you learn the unit,,love the touch screen and rechargeable handheld and also the light, tone, and vibrate on the collar,,I can't believe how simple it is to use it,,I thought it would take me forever to learn the unit from reading post on here before I ordered the unit, but after I got it,I sat down, read the book, and have no problems getting to where I need to go on the unit,,,my only regret is,not getting it much sooner,,

I've had an alpha for almost 2 years now, loved it up until the wiring inside my collar keeps disconnecting so I have to take it apart and connect it again and now recently my handheld screen doesn't respond to touch so all you get is the main screen and nothing else... Liked it due to rarely loosing signal in these bluffs and hills but disliking the problems I keep having with it. Just ordered the 320 with a t5 collar so I can enter the RQE next weekend so I'll see how well I'll like it! Gotta send the alpha in to get fixed but will be nice to have two systems!

I've had mine for about 6 months and it's been bullet proof. I love the big touch screen, range, batteries last forever. I don't think you can go wrong with either unit.

Ive had the alpha for almost 2 years prior to that had the astro 220 since it came out. Had a issue with it locking up when using the birdseye feature they released a update that solved it. I havent had to send it in one time to be fixed and it hasnt failed me yet. You guys with issues should attempt to dump the system get rid of the track logs and reinstall the updates its not difficult they have a program for it. Also I have found when using the birdseye that I didnt have the crash issues when installed to a card. Since the update that fixed the crash I havent had it shutdown once and havent had any issues and I use it all the time and for things other than just the dogs. Tracking additional dogs and hunters is a relative easy process and nice to be able to do without the collar or dog nearby.
