How are you doing? Have you heard from Bill lately? I see him on here from time to time.
Traits: Hard going, plenty of stamina, wide hunters, usually have a big mouth, quick on track and tight, hard, tree dogs. Big in size, males usually run from 70 to 90 lbs. They range on how they open on track, I've seen them from very tight to wide open. As a general rule, most are not trashy at all and once shown climbing game, they will shy away from fast game. They generally start fairly easy and are coon crazy. Bud was running and treeing his own at 8 months, ( with no prior training, all natural). Buzz started late, around 10 months. His two brothers started between 5 & 7 months but Buzz finished out better. It veries sometime.
Here are some things I would like to change on the ones I have or had in the past from this breeding: A little closer hunters, they tend to be a little hard headed, especially when they're trailing. Some are a little strange in the kennel, especially if they don't know you. Bud didn't warm up to strangers well but once in the timber, nothing bothered him, in other words, not just anyone could take him out of his kennel. Depending on what female he was bred to, some were a little YA YA on the tree, not mean, just didn't want another dog pushing them around. If it came to fighting, they don't like to fight.
All in All, they suit me fine and one big thing is, They look like a hound should! There are many dogs, from Bud or his offspring, all accross the country that are doing their part in pleasing people and treeing coon every night. Some love them some don't but then again, everyone don't like Chevy's, Dodges and Fords either. Eddie, you have a great day.
Ron
