Belt vs cap light

Im about to pull the trigger on a new light and was wondering who all switched from the belt light to a cap light, and if you had it to do over again would you still choose the cap light? I guess I am looking for the pro's and con's of the cap light's.

I've switched over to the cap light and love it. No cord to get caught on branches, no battery pack poking you in the back when you jump in the truck to move to a new spot, and best of all since I have a bad back now no weight pulling on my back and bothering it. I can't see me going back to a belt light.

.

I love the cap light and would never go back. Then I came across the Dans Strap Vest. It has a belt for the belt light and I am thinking of trying the vest and putting the battery pack on it. Might not like it but just a thought I have running through my head.

The first modern cap light was built in early 2009 and I have been wearing one ever sense.

At first they were not bright enough, then they were bright enough but had short burn times or were to heavy.

Now most are made plenty bright, good burn times and comfortable. No reason in my opinion for a belt light.

Bruce, I tried one like that it pulled on my shoulder. I would rather have it on a belt if I used one.

cap light

A cap light is the only way to go until you are on a steep hill side and trip and fall and the cap light falls off your head and rolls to the bottom of the hill.lol

I've been using a cap light for a week or so I may not be the best person to ask. I like it, but if I really dig for something to complain about, I'd say its having to give up the walk light. I've always had a walk light. That's my only gripe.

I love the comfort, the absence of a cord, its just as bright as my old belt LED AND its got a red light built in that's a real coon eye catcher.

How many wear bib overalls and NO belt at all with a cap light? That's what I did at first but I got to say I feel naked without a belt. I think I might add just a belt back, to carry a walk light of some kind and anything else that I may need to pack.

I had a vest with belt light on it and always felt like the battery pack was pulling down one side of the vest. Switched to the cap light and like it a lot better. The weight of the battery on the cap doesn't bother me, its balanced, and no more cord to fool with. One thing to consider- if you sweat a lot and your cap gets nasty after awhile- go with the bump cap because you cant replace the soft cap on the cap lights. They have the shell in them and the battery is attached to the shell.

I personally love a cap light. No heavy belt or battery pack, no cord, nothing pulling or tugging on me. Plus it frees up my hands from having to hold my light head when I get in tight spots, or whatever the situation may be. There's so many nice cap lights now a days to choose from it's nearly impossible to go wrong. On the other hand I know several people that cant stand them. My dad and brother for example can't stand anything on their head, and think my super light cap light is to heavy, but every one is different.

My question is how do they fare in HEAVY brush, I mean brush like many of you have never seen. I use a bump hat with a SMALL cord that runs under the back of my bibs to keep the brush from pulling it off my head.

I have a belt light. By belt light I think you mean battery on the belt??? If so, then yep...that is what I have and the biggest reason I went with that style is so that I don't have to reach up all the way behind my head to turn it on or off. Much more comfortable to reach right down at my side and adjust as needed. The batteries these days don't weight squat, so if it's hurting someone's back they must have an older light. My battery is about the size of a pack of cigarettes and about the same weight...little of nothing.

I'll never go back to a belt light. I bought a lazer torch pro with color and sold my belt light 2 weeks later.

I don't use the walking light on my belt light so I'm not worried about loosing that. The only gripe I have on my belt light is the cord, when I tuck it under my jacket or hoodie its always pushing or pulling on my bump cap.

Get you a cap light and some bib overalls. The most comfortable setup you can have. It's like wearing your pajamas coon hunting

Lights.......

I have had many, many heavy Belt lights, and liked most of them.
I have had many, many, different Cap Lights, liked some of them but not all.
I have been thinking of going back to a Lightweight Belt Light, Most of the CapLights are too heavy for me, then when you get to the tree you have to pull the light off your head to shine a tree, I don't like that. I have a hard time finding the coon with some of these new lights, just throws a lot of shadows. I do have a cordless Spotlight but I don't care for the burn time.
I just think the Belt Light version works better for me.

Been thinking about having Sam Davis build me a Vest Light, a hunting Vest like we all wear now for our accessories but with Lightweight batteries and a Control Box built in, with a plug in head. I think I would love it......
