Two Up-coming Litters

I will be breeding the only two females I own to Jim as soon as they come in.

1. Smokey River X Vaughn. She is S.R. on her top side. Her sire is out of Gr.Nt.Ch. Anderson's Jake (out of TrampX Grover female) and Mayberry Blue Charlene (out of Gr.Nt.Ch. Chief's Blue Jake) He is the Zack dog owned by Rick Whitley. Zack is a real coon dog, and a top reproducer.

Her dam is Vaughn bred, descending from Oscar Thomas' dogs, and Little Arkie. Her dam was (North, or South Dakota) St. Champion. I can't remember which one! Ha!

2. All Smokey River female with a huge mouth. She is a young dog that started easy, and was split treeing, with a coon, from the get-go. She is close on old Diamond Jim, and Sage on top, and goes back to Tramp, and Tom Dulley on the bottom. Her dam was out of a Tramp female, and my Andy dog (Jim's Sire).

I will give details as these females come in season, and are bred. I've had many calls about pups, and this is the best I can do right now.

Jim is an awesome male, with plenty of go, nose, desire and grit. Bawl on track, chop on the tree. He is a stay put tree dog, and not an ill hair on him. He is very accurate, and independent. I like him a lot!!

I will post them as soon as I get time. I appreciate your interest.

These pups should posses the qualities that attracted me to the bluetick breed. They should have outstanding noses, good mouths, and the desire to hunt and tree game.

They should be really good on bear, lion, and coon.
The Smokey River-Vaughn female should be coming in just any day. She is due. A lion hunter turned down a nice four figure price for a full brother to her. He is a top lion dog, and is used successfully as a rig dog on lion.

B/T/W, The Darling female's sire was out of Sooner Be Blue, and Cory Mailes' old Rudy female.

I'm sure most of you know that Tom Dulley was Double Diamond Jim bred. I don't know how many times, but I can tell you old Gr.Nt. Smokey River Diamond Jim shows up "A Bunch" in these pedigrees.

I want to thank everyone for the interest that has been shown in Jim, and these pups. I will keep everyone posted, and let you know as soon as each cross is made.

It seems, judging by the calls I've received, that a lot of people are wanting to put track, nose, and mouth back into their hounds. The reason there are some many slick treeing dogs is b/c they don't have the nose, or ability to finish the track at destinations' end. Slick treeing is not the result of "Too Much Tree." It is the result of "Not Enough Track." Jim is a strong tree dog, with tracking ability as well. I'm not going to say he's never wrong, but I can say most of the time he's right.

Dixie started coming in today. I noticed blood for the first time. She is a muscular female, with a blanket back, dark blue with rich tan trim. She squalls on the track, and chops on the tree. I will breed her to Jim as soon as she is ready!!!!!!

steeles riverbottom lucey was a good coondog and a real pleasure to hunt. I owned her for the last 3 yrs of her life. Those litters with her and chip made some real good coondogs, if they were hunted. Good luck with this cross craig. It should work.

Thanks so much for your input. The June female out of Lucy (Dixie's mother) was a real hound from what I understand. She won one of the State Championships, I'm just not sure which one it was. I think it was somewhere out west. From everything I've heard those dogs had good noses, and knew how to use them. I'm excited about the pups. Should get her bred one day next week. Thanks again for sharing!!! That was good to hear!!!!

This is Jim treed from last night's hunt. He struck a bad track and finished it right here. This tree grew up into a really large tree, with a big hole in it. I like a dog with enough nose to strike the really bad tracks, and the brains to know how to use it. Not everyone likes that kind of dog, but I really enjoy hearing a dog unravel a bad track.

Good Luck

These ought to be some nice pups .
I know that the Zack hound is one of the best kept secrets around. Its actually too bad that he has hasn't been bred more .I don't know of anything out of him that is for sale or that can be bought.Rick is a great guy (and Phillip ,too)and you can bet if a hound is eatin their feed its worthy.I guess on a different note ,if theres not a lot of offspring ,you don't have to worry about a bunch of competition . JMO.Again ,Good Luck w/ your crosses and I can see you've done your homework thru the years......Dave
