This shouldn't be all too hard for Garmin to program on to their units and make it possible. Apple makes an app for their IPhones called find my iphone for lost iPhones which allows users to access the location of their lost iphone from another iPhone, iPad, MacBook, etc. and it also allows the user to lock the phone, send a message to the phone incase it's found, send an alert tone in time increments which allows the alert tone to go off so long then shuts the phone off for so long and turn back on and repeat the process until found, and the app will also send notifications via email if the find my iphone app has been turned on/off and a few other notifications as well such as a map with the updated location each time the phone is turned on, while it's on, and where it was when it was last turned off. All of which make the app very helpful for someone trying to recover a lost/stolen iphone and prevent people from using/securing private data stored on your phone. I agree with the others, people that want something bad enough will find a way to do the dirty deed of getting what they want. But the longer it takes them to accomplish the task of getting what they're after and getting away untraceable gives them less time to get away unnoticed.
