just remember "counting days" is an estimate. having her tested at the same time as you get the brucellosis test is WAY more accurate.

ive seen females ready on the 7th day and some not ready till the 14th or later. the Jodi female I bred to Durango years and years ago would stand on the 7th day and 7th day only from first sign of spotting. we lost an entire cycle because we waited till the 11th day.

on the flip side the first litter of pups I got off of GRNTCHGRCH Boughtons Red Ruby, I finally AI'ed her with fresh collected semen on the 18th day because she STILL wouldn't stand. Her next cycle (the one Cinderella came from) she started standing on the 14th day, the exact first day the test said she should.

A lot of the people I have become friends with in the CKC show world all do progesterone testing to know when there dogs are ready to breed, they can't believe that coonhound people would only count days because they find most of their dogs are not text book.

Rance, I've always had pretty good luck with breeding 2 to 3 days after bleeding stops , which in turn usually is about day 10 or 11 of a heat cycle on most females. on the second day after red bleeding stops see if she will stand for a male dog and breed her the next day if she does . that's how its worked for me. (maybe because I missed those light pink days you are talking about ) I'd say you've been counting right if it has never failed you though. Good Luck. Rocky

Rance If the stud is there close Just keep tring her if you have to drive I would start counting now and ket a progestrin test right before you plan on going( might take a day to get the results) Some older females will pause for a few days right before ovulation so that is why i like to test them. But I am like you I like the 9th,11th and the 13th, day inless we A.I. good luck

yup, that's exactly why I started having the progesterone test done when I had the brucellosis test done. I was almost always working with AI, a male who wasn't a real aggressive breeder or was aged, or a female who had a quirky heat cycle..........or any combo of the above.

I never understood how someone could drive halfway across the US to breed to a male, and be too cheap to pay for a progesterone test as well as the brucellosis.

Believe It or not I have had guys show up who thought they were going to get away without even the brucellosis though. Like that was going to fly.
