Got a female that just dried up off of pups and im begining to hunt her again. Shes a young dog around 17months old. before she got pregnant she was hunting good and starting to split with some coons. ive hunted her twice since she dried up and she wont hunt much until the other dog strikes then she will go in and run track and tree with the old dog. Is there anyway to get her to start hunting better and get her goin in and pickin up her own tracks. any help and advice appreciated.

The best advice I can give you is have patience with her. She has been through a lot already plus the fact that she was laid up with pups when she should have been doing her most learning.

You will probably find that it will (almost) be like starting her all over again and this is mainly be due to the timleyness of her recent pregnancy. Having said that it has been my experience when she starts coming back to where she was before her pups, you will see her put thing together pretty fast.

Many females are a little sluggish after coming off pups. It usually take two weeks to a month to see them start firing on all cylinders like they were before the pregnancy.

First of all why do people breed these females like this? But thats done been done so cant change that. Id hunt her by herself. She will get were she will go hunting strike and tree her own track then u can start hunting her a night or two a week with others. Until she can do that id hunt her alone. Jmo

Takes some females time to get there hormones right again after having pups. Even older females can act stale for awhile. Just give her some time to get back to normal.

I just had one that acted like that just because she came in heat. She hunted fine before she came in but would not hunt a lick for about 3-4 weeks after she went out. She finally came out of it and hunts great by herself or with another dog now. Females and their hormones are strange animals.

it doesn't sound like she was ever at the point she would go hunting alone and tree coon to begin with.
getting her to go with the other dogs again is actually the easy part of what you can actually make out of her now. if she don't fire off in there with them, put her back in the dog box and don't let her out no matter how much she raises hell wanting to go. next drop if she don't go or comes back , put her in the dog box. make her sit and listen to the fun she is missing out on. if you keep doing this sooner or later she may go hunting like she once did at least.
as far as you ever getting her to go alone without you being the other dog and walking her in ? doubt full. she should of been singled out long before she was split treeing from the other dogs before.
doubt full she will ever hunt out good alone and almost a sure bet she will never go hunting alone with another dog left in the dog box.
sure it could probly be done, but its gonna take someone with a great deal of patience and dog handling skills to do it now.
