Need help with pup!

Have a 10 month old male pup.....I have wormed him with Drontal Plus and Panacur all with in a month. Been feeding Pro Plan. Can NOT get any weight on him at all. I tried mixing can dog food with the feed for a few weeks and he just doesn't act like he's interested in eating much.

Is there anything out there that will entice his appetite?? or put some weight on him???

just 1 ?

What does his stool look like, loose or hard and firm! He could have coccidia or giardia, both will keep him from gaining any weight!!

Hey Nathan try mixing heated corn beef hash with a little of his food it works very well packs the weight on em. Makes their coat shiny too. It's high in fat and protein.

How active in the kennel is this dog??? Does he constantly pace back and forth all day long?? Does he run loose and chase things around the farm all day??? Activity can burn a lot of calories in a young dog. If the answer to all the above was no then I think I would take him to a vet and have him checked...there is too many things that could be going on and the funny thing about vets if you have to go...the sooner the cheaper.

pup

His stool is perfect....but he is a stem winder! Always moving in kennel....that is the only thing i don't like about him. Regardless of being a "pacer" or not he should eat his dang food. He is more worried about what I am doing than eating?? Never seen one like this?

I have seen dogs that cant sit still and they are hard to put weight on. If he is not being worked 3 or four times a week and stays in the kennel being fed top shelf, high dollar dog food he wont eat much. I think I would still get him checked out by a vet. As long as you get a clean bill of health I wouldn't worry about it. Every vet I ever saw told me that when they are right you should be able to just see their ribs. I don't like that look and you cant see ribs on any of mine but that is just the line of dogs I have right now. I have had them just like yours. At ten months old, unless he is huge he should be getting about 1 1/2 to 2 cups of food a day...less of the high test stuff you are giving him. Maybe that high test dog food is winding him up and burning the calories too. Again, I don't know how much you are working this dog but that can have a lot to do with appetite as well as the heat outside. Mine don't eat much when it is hot out. It could also be his age...a lot is going on with a ten month old dog. I have seen many dogs go thru this growth/weight thing between 6 months and a year. They tend to look a little funny or out of whack, ears too long, legs too long, body too skinny, head too big, etc.

He's just a gawky teenager. He will fill oiut after he matures.
Meanwhile, if you want him to fill out, get some salmon oil in the horse department of the feed store. Put a tablespoon full on each meal of kibble. You can also add some cottage cheese--full 4% fat.

They also sell something called Dog Forte from Dawes Laboratories at some of the big hound events. A lot of hounds will eat more if you sprinkle that oin their food. It is kind of disgusting smelling powder full of semi-digested food [chicken intestines]. Heres a link:
http://www.dawesnutrition.com/tsb%2...DOG%20FORTE.pdf

I got a can from Rodney Millingsport. I have a hound who goes off his feed when he travels and he will eat if you sprinkle the powder on his food.

If that's all I feed my 10 month old he would be skin and bones.
