Barking idiot

Any one ever had a young dog you couldn't break from nuisance barking. I got one from a big breeder I think they have bred to close. It takes two collars and a size 10 ass kicking to even start to quiet her down. Have had dogs for thirty years and this is the first one I can't break

I have one now that was the same way. I sprayed here with the water hose. she went in her house and sprayed her in there until she about could not take it anymore. So I kept doing it. Seems to have helped a lot. She barks very little now.

Now you all know why so many "started" dogs are for sale that the owner says he "don't have time to hunt." "Nothing wrong with this dog, just hasn't been messed with and I don't have time." Yeah, O.K. we believe ya!!! Count them...seems like every other add about a young started dog says the same thing. Do they really think they are fooling somebody??? John Wick did write a pretty good article on nuisance barking in the current issue of American Cooner.

look at the breeding

Guaranteed I can probably guess the line of dogs they are off of...get you some of that old blood that has been linebred on and very few out crosses. Believe it or not...it can still be found.they are good Ole country boys out there that have concentrated that stuff and they have very intelligent dogs that are that way from the time they are pups....I have a six month old pup right now that acts like a 5 year old dog. If you wish to have one like him pm me....it will probably turn out to be one of the best decisions you have ever made concerning a coon dog

Had one do the same thing and I put a piece of tin up on the door of the kennel and just shot the tin with a bb gun. All I have to do now is just stick it out the door and shake it and they all get quiet real quick. And it hasn't made them gun shy. Might not be the best method but it worked for me.

I have dealt with quite a few dogs. Seen a few idiots, rattleheads and babblers. I have been lucky the past 8 years or so I guess. I have some dogs that are top of the line smart, and have bred true. I just culled a 9 month old last night, off my most recent litter, out of two of the best dogs I've ever owned. Starting from the time he was about 15 weeks old, he would not shut up. Bark in a kennel day and night, 24/7. Sit and fight a bark collar for HOURS and HOURS, bark shock scream shock scream, bark shock scream, to the point where it's almost abuse. Trashbreaker on 6, he'd take it like it was a joke and keep on barking. Whooping? Never, ever, have I done what I did to him - and before you left the kennel, he was already out of his box and whining/yipping. I started hunting him at 17 weeks. You can guess it. He barked non-stop in the dogbox, to the point you'd have to tape his mouth or muzzle him. He'd actually be not too bad once he was out, he babbled and barked behind his fair share, but not as bad as I expected, he actually would run track and open like a normal dog. At the tree he would bark treed some, then loose interest, find a dog stand behind it and bark 120bpm AT the dog. Not in a mean or even bothersome way, but he'd just follow a dog around and bark like he'd treed the other dog. He was louder than any dog I've heard, foghorn, and I have his father and half brother who are two of the loudest dogs around..

I finally couldn't stand it. Brains are number one on my list. This dog caught me so offgaurd. For a while I thought for sure it was just a phase, maybe a screw up on my end. But doesn't sound like it now. I am not really regretting my decision to cull so young. His parents, grandparents, littermates and half siblings are nothing like him. It has be a bit taken aback in my breeding.

old trick

Try putting another dog in the kennel with them. Give them a buddy. It works with my beagle young dogs.

I just heard last night

A guy told me this last night. He has a dog around 3 years old, that he couldn't get to be quiet. Problem is solved now with a new bark collar made by Garmin. Says it works great. This guy is honest.

I know a fellow that hunts dogs for people and he would get habitual barkers. I asked how he handled that being he lived in an area wuith neighbors. He said he used a pait ball gun.

Hunting one hard usually makes them hush. Not one turnout kinda hunting. Hunt their guts out. Now if this un is to small for that. I dont know how to fix it. Ive never saw one bark through a dogtra turned up on high and put on good and tight. Id have to see it to believe it.

I hunted mine down. Run him for hours, 5 days a week. Hard races, in the mountians, on fox. He'd lay in his box and bark as soon as he got home. Put a dog with him, he'd stand and bark at it all day trying to get it to play. I have tritronics and sportdog bark collars, I turned them on high, he would fight them. He would sit and scream for hours, if it shocked him, he had to have the last word, period. Tried setting it on lower settings to keep him from screaming, then it was just a joke, he'd bark thru it like it wasn't there. His neck looked like hamburger. I did the right thing in culling him instead of abusing him.

not adjusted correctly

If your having trouble with neck getting sore you may not have collar adjusted correctly. Its either too tight which will of course poke holes or too loose which will be able to turn and rub neck raw.I live in a good sized town and my neighbors are NOt hound people.I have had dogs that literally lived with bark collars and had little problem with sore necks.I think most people make the mistake of having collar too loose rather than too tight trying to be easier on the dog and this allows the collar to turn and rub neck raw.Just nice and snug should help.
