Dog Food Recommedations?

I just got a puppy. What is the best food for puppies and then for grown dogs? I have been feeding Purina Puppy Chow. It seems to be going good. She is growing rapidly and has lots of energy. Does anyone have any other recommendations? Just today I got a can of Pro Plan, the soft food. She loved it!! Would a combination of hard puppy chow and soft food be good?

When should I switch her over to grown dog food? At what age? Is Purina Dog Chow good? Or Pro Plan? What do some of you feed your dogs? I have heard that Alpo is terrible. What is your opinion on Alpo?

I raise all of my pups on the Puppy Chow... BUT the pro plan puppy formula is even better. Then when she gets older just switch her over to Pro Plan if she's the only one you are feeding.

I just Raised a litter of puppies on Purina Pro Plan puppy Chow they were eating it without milk at 2.5 wks old. the all looked good on it. ate it well and grew like weeds. I had 5 days till weening time and didnt want to spend $50 on another bag of puppy feed so i bought a bag of diamond naturals large breed. It took a few days to get them to eat it. Pro Plan is good feed all around. I feed 3-4 grown hounds and a 35 lb bag will last me almost 2 weeks.

I would look at large breed food, due to the long legs of hounds it's important that they don't grow to quickly in my opinion.
I'm getting away from diamond, they just changed there formula, and I haven't had the best luck with it since then.
I would go with a grain free, if you can afford it. Tractor supply usually has some sales and coupons and you can usually stock up when you figure out what works best.
I think something that is important, that is often over looked is that pups should be fed 3 times a day, when there young.

I have also found with better quality foods, less is usually better. My vet told me most guidelines on most bags are fairly generous, I've found too much food can lead to diarrhea when feeding higher octane. I also know a lot of guys that will mix.

We don't have a large selection on what kinds of dog food we have but I've always fed Purina Puppy Chow or for a few puppies Purina Beniful.

I agree, some dogs are a lot more sensitive to what you feed then others.

Diamond extreme athlete for pups and grown dogs and every other dog on the place !!! It is top feed and you might get cheaper but that just what you get and you will feed 1/2 of dea to other feeds and won't have the results so the money isn't any difference !!! I have been feeding it for 4 years and have been very happy with it !!! And tsc gives me a break since I buy 10 bags at a time !!! Jmo

Which bag of Puppy Chow were you feeding, the one with the green colored pwices or the one that is just tan and brown? I've had problems with the green one bit not the other.

Tried both actually, put two bags of the colored through him and one bag of the tan and brown through him then switched to Pride

I never feed a puppy food. It's all marketing. Look at the ingredients... Also large breed type foods is another marketing thing. Jmo... Do you want to know best food or best foot within most people's price range?

I have been feeding it for a year. It is expensive but I only feed it to the one I hunt and she looks better than she has in her life.

Joey, I'm glad you are havin the same luck as I am with it! I think Humans could live healthy on it. The formula I feed is venison bison blueberries raspberries etc. all with loads of vitamins and no useless by products. I'm very pleased!

i agree 100%!! Look at the ingredients on this dog food and compare it to any purina dog food. You will quickly realize which is better. Wat i did with my dog is i fed her taste of the wild until she was one year old then switched her to diamond naturals chicken and rice.
