Starting a New Pup

I purchased a female pup last week, and was finally able to get her into the woods this week for the first time. The pups name is Daisy and my daughter whom is going to handle her seen the Diamond in the center of her back. So needless to say her name is now Diamond Back Daisy.
Here is a link to watch her on the first night out.

DiamondBack Daisy's first tree

Last night I has a great hunt, Daisy treed on a possum. I did not punish her for it. Just kept her from playing with it and told her no.
You can see the video of last night at. http://www.youtube.com/autosurflink

Linden PKC Hunt

I took DiamondBack Daisy and Duke down to Linden TN for the PKC hunt last night. Daisy struck quick and was bawling hard and fast. She then stopped and came back to us. I waited a few to see if she was gonna go hunt some more but she didn't and we were on the side of the road. So I withdrew her from the cast. Duke struck and was trying to locate when the 2 other dogs started treeing. I know duke and he went to check to see what all the fuss was about. He didn't lock down on the tree they were on but instead locked down on one about 30yrds away. We never even shined the tree he was on, we just leashed them and walked away? Well we went about 50yrds and cut them again, the 2 other dogs went right back to the 1st tree, and duke went on hunting again. The cast went and gathered up the 2 dogs that had re-treed, and Duke was struck in on another coon, but one of the dogs in the cast started bawling and duke came to see if he had the coon Duke was looking for. The cast waited for more than the six minutes before releasing their dogs the 3rd time. If they had there is a great chance they would have just went running back over to the same tree and been scratched. We left the woods with almost 9 minutes in the hunt. I definitely learned a lot, and any advise for the future i would appreciate it.

New Camera

I was at wally world today and seen a new camera from "Nerf" it does pics and videos. It also has a light on it. The only draw back I see is that it has to have AAA batteries. I am going to be showing Diamond Back Daisy in Elkton KY tomorrow, and hunting Duke. So hopefully we get some good pics and videos.

Win at Bench Show

Last night DiamondBack Daisy won her bench show with 35 points. I am very happy and proud of her. When I got home I noticed she has started to come into heat. So she will be out for almost a month now. And we have a ton of hunts I wanted to get here into. I still have Duke, who I am trying to Grand Night out that I can take show and hunt. This is her first heat as far as I know and Duke is getting old. So I am ever so tempted to breed them even though this is her first heat.
I do not see anything in the rule book against it at the PKC or UKC. Does anyone have facts on this? I really want to keep the Stylish Hays line alive because Duke is 8yrs old, and I am concerned about waiting till next year. If he passes away before I am able to breed him I've lost the bloodline. I think a mix between 100 Proof Rat/ SCH Rat Attack and Stylish Hays Jr./ Stylish Hays would make an awesome coon dog.
Does anyone know if breeding on the first heat messes up a dog?

Breeding

Well, Diamond Back Daisy is breed to Hard Knockin Duke. I will be posting the Pedigree. I took her hunting on Friday Night and she is starting to get up on the tree, after she smells around it several times. This tells me she is not going to be a me too dog. We are at 8 weeks and counting until the pups get here. I have been working on the welping box. Does anyone know if it is better to put carpet, or a pet pillow in the box? I would assume carpet because of the chance of suffocation with the pillow, but this is my first litter.
Thanks for the feedback, and I will be posting their pedigree soon.

I would use carpet in your whelping box!! Make sure you tack it down. After she has them you can change it out with fresh. I would make sure you're around when she has them, being young and her first litter she may be confused or over whelmed. Some dogs do great on their first and some have no idea what to do! Best of luck! Can't wait to see pics of the pups.

Whelping Box

I appreciate the info, I have it built with a 1X2 in the center so she can get away from the pups for feeding and water. I am currently looking forward to a small litter of pups. I will be surprised if its more than 4 or 5. But like I said its her first litter.

Pups are here!

Man has it been an exciting day! Daisy started delivering this morning and as of now the count is at 10. That's a whole lot of pups, and a lot of color! One of the females looks like a carbon copy of 100 Proof Doc according to his pic I found. I'm looking forward to getting her back in the woods soon, and starting the new pups. I am on my way to DC and a friend is watching her and the pups for me at his house. I promise, tons of pics and videos when I get back.

This past weekend

This past weekend we had a 4 days off in a row so I took that time to get Duke into the woods. Daisy is still laid up with the pups and has 4 weeks left till I can get her into the woods. I am going to be trapping a caged coon in the next 3 weeks to get around the pups so they can get started. We went out Thursday night and I hunted with Kent and his dog Hillbilly Jack. We got a coon treed quickly and were able to get it out to Jack. He did good but when time came for it to be over Duke was turned loose and took care of business. You can see the videos at
http://www.youtube.com/user/AutoSurfLink

There is a total of 9 pups and there is only 3 left for sale as the others are spoken for.
The price is $250.00 out the door at 6 weeks. After that time the price will increase due to shots, feed, and I will be starting them into the woods. If interested or want to view the pedigree of the parents please call or email me.
Pups are performance paid, and I am also looking at super staking them.

Normectin

I went today and bought a bottle of Normectin for de-worming my dogs. I am going to do Duke at the beginning of the month with a full cc. and then a half a cc. on the 15th. I have heard great things about it, and that it saves a lot of money instead of buying heart guard and de-worm medication. That it does all worms and is good.
What kind of worm medication do you use?
And why do you choose the brand you choose?

pictures of Pups

Here is the long awaited pictures of the pups I promised.

You can find them all at
http://s1127.photobucket.com/albums...eing%20Walkers/

The PKC and UKC papers are in the mail headed back to me. The pups are all permanently registered and performance nominated. These pups are from some outstanding stock, and are going to be ready in 3 weeks. I have started training them already according to the " Train my Pup" protocol.

I am looking forward to them being big enough to leave, and be able to get training with Daisy soon.

Loud Mouth PUP

I was playing with the pups last night, and had a coon tail with scent on it. While playing there was one waddling around with his nose in the air, bawling. It was fun to watch, I will make sure I can get it on video next time it happens.

Ivermectin Dosage

I was reading that you can dose a bitch that has pups on the ground. It said you could prevent the pups from getting worms by doing so .

Pups will be Ready Tuesday

Tuesday 17 July 2012 The Puppys off of Hard Knockin Duke, and Diamond Back Daisy will be ready to go.
They have been wormed and recieved their 7 in one.
I have been working with them per the "Tree My Pup" DVD. They all have had coon tail fur with added coon scent in their mouth and are very active. They have a coon scented toy kept in their kennel that they play with often.
My Phone number is 253-722-7949

Thanks Andy Sloan
