Split Strike ?

Is there any circumstances that strike points would be split beside striking at the same time?

I think anytime handlers agree that its the fairest thing to do they can be split.
An example would be crowning the top of a hill and all dogs come within hearing at the same time. Splitting the points makes more sense than a shouting match to get em on the card.

It actually happened to me. We called strike at the exact same time and the judge said he was splitting it.

1 example

I was on a nite hunt 3 yrs ago.
We just cut dogs loose across a field.
Guide/judge had permission, but the nosey neighbor{that didn't own the property}drove down to see what was going on.Judge/guide walked back to road to let him know he had permission. All dogs struck in,when they got in the woods,no judge. So when he came back we just agreed to split strike.

Only thing I didn't like was my dog split treed 30 ft away, and they out voted me to split tree points too....lol

you line the dogs up to turn them lose they all open before you turn them you believe that there is a track there the judge says if they leave here on a track all strick will be split.

mr felderman sounds like you got some coon dogs that win there self not ones the handler wins for the dog by tweeking the rules . that is great hope your hounds continue to win.

and before anybody takes it the wrong way my comment to mr felderman has nothing to do with split strike points just only that sounds like his hounds do it right by there self. no temptation to cheat or twist the rules when you have a true blue get it done right coon hound.

What about this situation. 3 Dog cast, 1 dog is barking on the leash and the other 2 dogs are just pulling but have not barked. Cut loose and they all open in seconds. 2 members say split strike the judge says no because not all dogs were barking on the leash. What do you do?

Split or is the judge correct? I don't know

As long as they were all barking when you turned loose, split the strike. Doesn't matter what they were doing on the leash.
Sounds like the judge was out voted anyway. SPLIT.

If all dogs are barking when lined up getting ready to cast, you then split the strike point 3 ways. If only two dogs are barking, you split strike points two ways, if only one dog is barking nobody is going to agree to split so you will be forced to call your dog in the order in which they open.

If more than one dog is barking on the lead strap, the judge should ask if handlers of those dogs would like to split the strike points. The handlers all have the minute grace period so it would be their choose whether to strike or not strike. The handlers that choose to split would be on the card with the appropriate split strike points and the rest would have the normal minute rule and next available positions as called.

Some other times to split strike would be.......

-Turning loose on a hot coon seen crossing the road.
(To be fair, I would split strike points)
-Dogs deep and out of hearing, drive closer by vehicle.
(If dogs opening when arrive, all dogs opening will have strike points split.)

You most certainly can with a majoriy vote.
Maybe you hear 1 or 2 dogs struck in and you need to get closer quickly. They could be getting out of hearing or could be closing in on a road. No need to call timeout and waste the whole drop.
Everyone can check their Garmin and decide.

I was just giving an example of when you "could" split strike points.

If mines to far to hear. Im not agreeing to split nothing. More than likely when we get in hearing. They will be treed also. So we'd have to split that to. Best thing to do is walk. He who has better ears. Gets better points. Plus if all you split strike just to all dogs barking at turn loose. You must be splitting an awful lot of points nowdays with all these souped up deluxe first strike dogs.

That's what I thought but I've been hearing different. Once they are off the leash you can't split. Wish Allen would confirm yes or no.

once dogs our off leash you can't decide to split strike. if all dogs our opening on the lead you need to ask the judge to split the strike right then. not after you cut the dogs.

I believe anytime it cant be determined which dog opened and was struck or got treed and was called first the points may be split.

If they have to be on the leash why does the scorecard show the split breakdown for tree points?

split strike

Judges dog is barking on leash, other dogs are pulling hard as we walk across a dirt road and into woods. We cut and judge strikes with in 10 seconds. All other dogs mill around and head back for the road. Mine and another run the road for 200 yrds or so, judge trees, and a car is coming down the road. Other guy says he wants to call time and judge does not want too, I say "we have dogs in danger". We all go to the road and the car is stopped for one of the dogs in the middle of the road. Mine and the other is off the road on the other side but barely. Judge still is not wanting to call time and speaks to the driver telling him of other dogs on road. By the time the car is proceeding our dogs are off the road and 500 yrds and out of danger so I don't push the time out. The car gets far enough away that we can't hear the gravel crunching under the tires, and we can hear our dogs barking, but can't identify who's is who's. I say "lets split" it is agreed to split strike and tree if they are treed when we go to them. We score judges tree and proceed to our dogs treed on the same tree.
