Opinions needed.

I just acquired another piece of swamp land to hunt.. It's a swampy draw about 250 yrds wide, and 980 yrds deep.. Some oaks on one side pines on the other .. Here's my issue... At 980 yards.. It ends at r/r tracks.. With more swamp on other side.... I have heard stories of dogs being killed by trains in the past... Question is... Is the risk worth the reward..? I know dog should get struck hopefully before it reaches the tracks... Just wondering what others would think about turning out here, with their prized dog.. Thanks

Depends on how much that prized hound means to you,,,do you have other nice places to turn out,,,if so I wouldn't even think about it if I were you,,,I myself never put my prized dog in harms way,,,just the way I am,,,good luck

I don't suppose you could call the RR and find out when the trains are running??? Otherwise can you figure out when they are typically there??? Most trains or main tracks have schedules, if you can get an idea when... We don't have any tracks in the county where I live and only one coal train that comes to a power plant in the next county up. That train used to only run on Tuesday mornings around 10:00am, don't know if you can figure when they will be there or not. I have had some dogs I woulda liked to turn out there.

Walk or drive in along the tracks and hunt away.

RR Tracks

As long as a train ain't running down it every 15 minutes I wouldn't worry to much about it. If the hunting is good I'd say go for it.

Thanks to all

That have responded, as for getting a train schedule... That's an Idea. As for walking in and hunting away from tracks, not possible. I've got other land to hunt, but consider it to be even more risky, April 5th.. Had a 7 month old pup get hit by an 11'4 gator,,90 something stitches..very lucky to be alive..! I think this piece of land will be a lower risk until the gators are hibernating .
