Correction. When is it too late?
I have a young pup just about to turn two that is harder to call than any ever dog I've ever been to the woods with. When she opens her mouth on track, you never know if its gonna be a chop, squall, bawl, yip, or some combination in between.
I've finally gotten to the point where I feel SLIGHTLY comfortable calling her. However, there are times when I feel she just doesnt sound right and I think she is trashing. This has happened to me several times, and only two times have I been confident that she was running trash. The first time was when she was running a bobcat (multiple left trees about 400 yards apart) and the second time was when she was running a fox (Figure eight on the garmin). The other times, she either ended up a swamp or ran the track too far (excess of over a thousand yards through timber, fields and onto private property) that i've had to call her off. Only twice has she has ended such a race with a coon in a tree.
My question is, is it too late to correct her after she has been running it for awhile (better of 20 minutes)? As with the case of the fox, I wasnt confident she was trashing until she made the figure 8.
Or should I just call her off and forget about it?
