Billy the kid

Could someone tell me about billy the kid. What kind of nose did he have and track speed. I have a grand son to him that I use on bear here in VA and was just wanting to know a little about him.

Sorry, I have had a lot going on as of late and have not been keeping up on emails and the board very good.
To answer your questions, Billy had a good nose....I would describe it as medium to cold. I saw him work out plenty of old bad feeder tracks in winter but he wasn't one to mess with tracks he couldn't move quickly in the spring or summer. He was a very competitive dog and liked to be out in front on a track and was usually in the lead on most tracks. He was a very quick locator who had a very distinct locate and I considered him to be very easy to call in competition. When he treed he located the tree and then went into a loud clear ringing chop (about 100 barks a minute on most trees. I never hunted any of Billy's pups on big game but I did send a few out west and I heard they made good lion and bobcat dogs. I hunted with a lot of dogs from the outlaw line before Billy and during the 90's and that line is probably not known for having extremely cold noses. I would call most medium nosed dogs. Not overly mouthy on a track...some good strike dogs....and some tight mouthed on track but most were very quick tree dogs. What dogs is your grand pup to Billy out of?

Wow....that is an impressive pedigree if your a Burning Ben, by way of Famous Amos and Outlaw fan!
Not sure if you know the next two or three generations of his pedigree, but it looks like to me that he has Famous Amos about 3 or 4 times on top and 4 times on bottom in his first 5 generations. He also shows Outlaw Jessie and the best dogs from her two best crosses through Billy, Jessie James, Jessie James Jr, (and littermate) Outlaw Jack, Wrights Little Girl II, Outlaw Timber Girl, and Dawns Timber Jack.
I have not seen a pedigree quite like that with so much of the old Blood that concentrated and up close in the first 5-6 generations. He sure does favor Billy in those pics the way he stands on the tree and the look of his head in the one where he is standing. I really enjoyed seeing those pics of him and his pedigree. I hope he is making a really good dog for you and that you like him a lot....Thanks, Shane

Thanks for the input and compliments. I like him very much I just turned 3 and her starts his own bear track and has lots of track speed always up top of the pack he is a very nice dog and I think he is only going to keep getting better.
