Loser

Had moon on 8 night hunts, this is the ironic part that I find. In these hunts moon has had 10 first trees and 1 split tree with coon seen in every one. I have not won a cast. In all but two of these hunts the hound that has won I felt like could not tree many coons , if any! Me Too hounds win most of the time. Night Champion has lost some of the glow.

That's the reason there is UKC dogs and PKC dogs. Most dogs ran in PKC will be split most of the time. JUST my opinion.

Obviously Moon is a 1St tree dog and accurate, but what strike is he taking? Also is he taking minus for quitting tracks, 8 minute rule, miscalls, etc? Not enough information here to guess what is happening. Yes, I admit the best dog does not always win but if a dog has been in 8 hunts with 11 first tree's and has the coon 100% seen, somewhere there must be something I am missing.
Still like the UKC

Really doesn't matter how many first trees he makes and if they all have coon if another dog is treeing more. If you are losing regular to a me too dog it just might be your dog needs looking into

A good dog will beat a me too dog 95% of the time... He might have made a few trees with coon but he's obviously not doing enough... Might just not have what it takes

moon

if he is takeing last strick and 1st tree that is 150 per coon if another dog is takeing 2nd tree and 1st strick that is 175 he will beat you all night long.

that is why i like the 1st and 1st type dog , no less then a 2nd strick and 1st tree, anything less then that i will not hunt it in a hunt.

I am not wanting to sound negative,, but 8 hunts and 10 first tree's is just over One first tree per hunt,, maybe if all hunts are in very thin coon,, this is good,, but most places if you are getting 2 or more first tree's in the 2 hours,, is better

Some casts are won by the dog that treed the most coon.
Most casts are won by the dog that made the fewest mistakes.

It's the only trait for some time that I look for in a hound. When I state this most people don't understand the depth of what I am saying. [ moon] is a 4th strike dog and 1st tree dog, and a constituent 150 will not win. Throw in a couple opossums, and less than stellar handling and the formula is loser. However in my observation more than a few cast winners are very average. A lot of winners never tree a coon and even more I don't think they can. They have to have a king maker. I am not an expert at competition hunting, but I am an expert at treeing coons! The magic of a great locating dog is rare, I have ran hundreds through the carwash looking for the locating ability. It is seldom you find a dog that can do this. The very best I ever owned was a black and tan female, and she opened my eyes to the speed of a great locater and the ability to make coons. [moon] may be a loser in competition, but here he is a winner.

At least you acknowledge there is a hole with the dog being a fourth strike dog, and you are not crying about the babblers. It just goes to show a dog can be an excellent coon treeing dog, but not be suited for competition. You are of the right mindset to enjoy your hound. There is more to coon hunting then just these competition hunts.

Im sorry. A dog that trees and holds there points will win consistanly. I have a english female in the last 6 weeks here you go. final 3 alabama st hunt fri night. final 4 open event sat night. next weekend simi finals at oklahoma pro hunt. next weekend cast winner at nations. next weekend final 4 prohunt in adamsville tn. next weekend final 4 fri and sat night at tn state hunt. next week won 50$ hunt hunted it off and won it. over $3000 won in last 6 weeks in other kc and she is tight mouth and a dead loner no 2nd trees. We have had times where we could not win a cast due to the strike. If mine treeing coons and not sucking up minus and i'm getting beat then I pay no attention to winning and losing. Its kind of like Nick Saban says. Focus on doing the things you need to do to be successful and you will be. Just because his team moves the ball well but don't play defense he is not happy. I'm a firm believer to be a coondog its more WHAT THEY DON'T DO. My advise to you would be break him of those cheese heads and focus on the rules and preparing yourself and your dog not to draw minus and don't look at compition hunting as your a victom when you get beat. Just go HAVE FUN and if you win great. When you relax and just have fun thats when you will win.

I'm not complaining, and if I had been real dedicated I would have tried harder to break [moon] from opossums. However these 2 only made about six or seven all season. Really had not been much problem, just treed two at wrong time. I have worked hard on the rules and am about up to speed on this. I have enjoyed some of the people I have meet greatly, others not so much. Sounds like you are having much success and that's wonderful. You can be assured I am not up tight about nothing!
