Ok ohio hunters ever heard of this?

Ok I live in Madison county ohio and was told by my local game warden for my county that after may 1st I'm not allowed to run hounds until season opens but yet this is the first time I've ever heard I this and is not posted in the law book just wondering if any of u ohio hunters had heard anything similar

I thought you could run the hounds ALL year you just could not shoot anything out til the fall? I'm going to search for the laws now, but that is what I understood.

State hunting areas are closed to running dogs around that time, but opened all year on private land, public ground opens back up August 1st

This is what I was getting ready to post. It's right on ODNRs website

http://wildlife.ohiodnr.gov/hunting...ral-information

quote:
The Ohio Division of Wildlife has established designated dog training areas on some of its wildlife areas. Dogs may not be trained or exercised on state public hunting areas from May 1 through August 31, except on these designated dog training areas. A nonresident may not train, work, or exercise a dog in Ohio at any time if Ohio residents are not permitted to train, work, or exercise dogs in the nonresident’s state. Training dogs while pursuing furbearing animals is permitted only from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Firearms may not be carried by persons training or working dogs during the closed season for furbearing animals.

Designated dog training areas are located on portions of the Berlin, Caesar Creek, Delaware, Fallsville, Indian Creek, Killdeer Plains, Lake La Su An, Oxbow Lake, Resthaven, Rush Run, Spencer, and Tri-Valley wildlife areas.

If you ran into him out in the woods, you may want to get your hunting regulations book and find the info in it and just highlight it to keep it on you. Just incase you run into the idiot again. Atleast having the correct info on you will save you some time and headache and make him look like an ass =p

This is clearly spelled out in the Ohio Department Of Natural Recourses. There is designated areas is some counties. That are approved between May 01 and August 01.
These are the only places you can train a hound between the above dates. Go to the Ohio DNR. Under hunting and trapping, under dog training.
